I'm not in Milwaukee, but the customers I've spoken to that *are* there are quite happy with it. A couple of minor hiccups. For example, if you leave the area, the phones that do EVDO drop to 1xRTT, but coming back in, you have to cycle the phone off then back on in order to step back up to EVDO.

I've heard informally that this has been patched, but have no confirmation on that. But the speed is definitely appreciated by those who've spoken to me.

I was recently down in Milwaukee at Miller Park, I didn't even realize that they had EVDO coverage down there. We don't have the service 2 hours north of milwaukee. I was quite impressed with the speed of the service.

Just out of curiosity, how was the latency? It seems to take quite a while for the Q to contact email servers during a send/receive. Have you tried it while on EVDO? I know it downloads faster. Does it connect faster, too?

To be honest with you I never tried to do it manually when I was down there. When I noticed they had EVDO all I did was try the internet.

Default evdo in St. Louis?

I am rather new to all this, but does USCC in St.Louis have evdo? My Q is pathetically slow to surf regardless of where I am. I have successfully used the open DNS hacks and they work only temporarily. I wish there was something that could make them more permanent!

I suppose there are really two questions stealthily hidden there...Does St. Louis Missouri have EVDO on USCC, and has there been a more permanent hack for open DNS on the Q?

I recently left USCC, but as of a week ago, no, St Louis did not have EV-DO. It's still in trials in Milwaukee.

For what it's worth (and this is entirely unofficial), the hold up on rolling out EV-DO doesn't seem to be technical. From what I'd heard before I left, it's business. Is USCC going to make money from rolling it out? It's not that anyone's said No. It's that no one is comfortable saying Yes in a sure enough way to begin the rollout.

Again, that's all grapevine and rumors. Nothing official.

Default speed is the key

I have been pretty happy with USCC. I haven't had any issues that they haven't had resolved quickly, no billing issues that I can remember, and I am happy with their coverage here. BUT, this data thing is killing me! I swore that I would never go back to Sprint, but if their speed is better, I might.

Maybe that is what USCC is contemplating. Is losing a few speed demons to competition worth rolling out the EVDO here? I just can't believe that they wouldn't want to compete in every way possible with the other carriers who are offering faster speeds.

I brought many friends and my family to USCC based on my satisfaction. I hate to say it, but I can take them with me too. Since we all came over at just about the same time, our contracts are very close. I just want

I think the reasons you mention in your post are the main ones under consideration when it comes to deciding if and when to roll out EVDO.

The good news for you is that, if USCC does launch EVDO, St. Louis will probably be one of the first places it's available.
