Default Connecting to Exchange Server 2003 Issue

I just got my Q from USC - I wanted to connect it to my Outlook to get e-mails and such but I am not able to - I'm getting an error which I have researched and it tells me because my office uses a self-signed SSL certificate that it won't allow the phone to sync. Is there a way to make this work with a self-signed certificate or do I need to go out and buy an SSL certificate from a known CA?

you dont need to buy a cert. You can use self signed.

i have some info on igotaq.googlepages.com. If that doesnt help then PM me your server address I'll make a cab file for your cert to install on yrou Q.

Thanks,

I'm part of the way there....I guess - I got the certificate installed on my phone, verified it was there - now I get an error message as follows:

You have an incorrect SSL certificate common name in the Host Name field. For example, you may have entered www.tailspintoys.com when the common name on the certificate is actually www.wingtiptoys.com. Make sure the server name is entered correctly. Support code: 0x80072F06

I know that our self signed certificate is called vpn.ourdomain.com

what server name is this asking for? Do I need to reissue a certificate to get this to work? For the server address, I am using the ip address, is that o.k.?

Thanks for your assistance - this is really frustrating.

Use whatever your site name is. If the OWA address is IP address then regenerate the cert and issue it to the IP address. If the owa address is mail.domain.com then make sure certificate is issues to mail.domain.com

Your server address will be whatever the certificate is issued to.

Ok, dumb it down for me please. I changed our SSL cert to mail.ourdomain.com, created the cab, installed it, and now I am getting this error:

ActiveSync encountered a problem on the server
Support code:0x85010014

So,

When I log on to outlook through IE - I use - http://mail.ourdomain.com/exchange - this takes me to the login for e-mail

1. So do I issue the SSL for mail.ourdomain.com or mail.ourdomain.com/exchange?

2. Then, configuring the server on the Q in ActiveSync - for Server Address - do I use mail.ourdomain.com or mail.ourdomain.com/exchange?

3. Finally, on the Q after username and password, it asks for domain. Where do I look to find this because when I open the system manager in exchange - it says OFFICESERVER1 which is the name of the computer but also in there on the server properties, directory access tab it says domain controller OFFICESERVER and domain server.ourdomain.com - under the oma properties further down it says ourdomain.com (default) - Where can I look to confirm the proper domain? Thanks.

1 & 2- mail.ourdomain.com -- if you just PM me your OWA address i can quickly tell u if the cert is right or wrong.

3- If you do ctrl + ALT + DEL on a PC .. it will tell you "Your name is logged on as DOMAIN NAME\USER NAME. Use this domain name.

0x85010014 error -
If you have single server setup or a Small business server.. you need to create a new directory called exchange-oma. Follow method#2 on Microsoft's KB article # 817379

I think creating this directory will fix your issue. This should be the last thing you need to do.

BTW.. Verify your settings with the settings i have in a .ppt @ igotaq.googlepages.com

I am using a single server and using Exchange 2003 sp 2. I will method 2 a try - but there is already a exchange-oma directory present so is method 2 what I really need? Also, I did check my settings against the ones you had posted.

One other thing I thought of - would my firewall or antivirus be an issue?

Thanks again.

I don't think so. Check the registry key to make sure its there.. check step 18. I've seen some times- recreating the exchange-oma directory fixes the 0x85010014 error too. (just delete it and recreate it)
