I really want to dump my pda and just carry a phone (like the blackberry or Moto Q) that has a calendar and some other pda functions. However instead of paying an extra data charge, can I just use the blackberry or Moto Q as a cell phone, and sync with my computer instead of the more expensive data sync with monthly fees?
I'm currently a USC customer and have been happy with them and my really really old cell phone... but it may be time to upgrade.
USCC will not allow you to buy the Q without activating a data plan, you can get data only, but not visa versa.
So can you get the data plan and then cancel in the first month? It really seems to be a waste of money if I want a Q but don't care about 24/7 downloaded data.

Thanks for the info!
Probably not.
Any carrier would probably require you to be on a data plan for at least 3 months to avoid extra fees.
ok, i dont know about this particular carrier but it is possible with some coaxing to get a Q w/o a data plan. I managed that with vzw a short time ago. Even tried to tell me I couldnt do it (posted here in frusrtration while on hold) Could tell your carrier that you have knowledge of other people with Q.s that have data blocked on their phone.
Bottom line is its not impossible, but it might take you to escalating the call to a supervisor and/or their technical people.
You could tell the also that other carriers will block data and you are considering switching...that might get them moving as well.

I've asked USC multiple times & every time they say no, I cannot cancel the data service (had mine since Oct.07) ... they said they used to let people do it w/ the blackberry but then the phone spent so much time searching for the data signal that it caused the phone to slow down, customers complained, so they stopped letting people cancel data services.
