Question Work Email/Exchange Server

I have been trying to setup my work email to my phone...I have had success with Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail...but my work email keeps giving me these sync errors messages or tells me my internet connection is not configured properly and to verify my settings in data connections. I am trying to sync over air...I get the same problems when I sync by USB also...can anyone help me set this up or point me in the right directions?

If your "work email" uses MS Exchange server you will need to contact your IT dept.

IF you have Exchange setup correctly, it should be very easy.

I believe (if memory serves...) the easiest way to get everything working is start from scratch with Activesync on a computer with Outlook hooked up to Exchange already. When you install Activesync and associate your phone with that copy of Activesync it will kind of walk you through the settings. Also you will have to install a certificate from your Exchange server. There is a free little program that helps install the certificate once your sys admin gives it to you.

We have Exchange at our office and it was not setup correctly to sync with our phones. We had to hire a tech to come in and tinker for a few hours at $75 an hour to make everything work right. Setting up the Q's is SOOO easy compared to a Palm OS....wow....the Treo's are hit and miss with the Exchange server.

Has your sys admin been able to help you out at all yet? Got any questions, I can go into more detail on some of this.

Good Luck,
Anthony

This is actually really good if our IT guys were more knowledgeable. Is there any chance you can help me with instructions as to what I need from IT and what all I should be able to do on my own.

The less help I need them for the easier and faster it will be for me...although I understand that I will need some information and stuff from them.

Thanks!

First question, just to make sure, your computer is already hooked up to an exchange server right? If yes, are you able to log into your exchange server remotely, say from a laptop? It is the same setup on your Q as your laptop mostly.

If your company has exchange setup, but does not have the server setup for remote access with a "server address" you will have to convince your company to do some upgrading. This was my situation. We had exchange setup, but only inner-office, so much additional setup was required for everything to work.

Anyway, here is a list of what you need to get for your Q to start fetching/syncing email, contacts, and calendar.
  • Your IT guys could be helpful by suppling you with the server address, mine is "mail.xxxxxxx.com".
  • Our server does require the above mentioned SSL certificate. (It is actually a small file that you most copy to your phone and then run a smart phone certificate install program.)
  • Next you need your domain name.
  • You probably already know your windows network or domain user name and password.
Hope this helps you out. You will be sooooo happy when you have this all setup and working flawlessly. I love having my Outlook sync'ed between my work desktop, mobile laptop, home desktop, and Q.

This is good I got something new which seems like it is working...

"Result:

Your account in Microsoft Exchange Server does not have permission to synchronize with your current settings. COntact your Exchange Server administrator.

Support Code:0x85010006"

Can you explain what I need from here please. Thanks for the help I have been trying to do this for months and finally making some progress. I am a remote worker with my company and this beats carrying around a laptop everywhere I go.

Honestly, I do not know anything about that error. But do a Google search, I just did and there are MANY results for your error. It looks like it has something to do with Activesync....

Good Luck,
Anthony
