Default Sprint Vs. Verizon Coverage

I have also been reading about sero, and I have one foot over the boat to jump ship from verizon. Unlike Qwho, I'm out of my contract so money isnt the deciding factor. What is the coverages like with sprint in comparison to verizon. I know i usually have bars everywhere with verizon and the data seems to fly when I'm in the right places, will i be taking a major hit to coverage and speed with sprint, or are they both pretty comparable. What are the contracts for sero, do i have a choice for a 1 and 2 year?

Thanks guys
-gebo

www.sprint.com/coverage - put your ZIP see street level coverage

And as for SERO - 2 year plans only I am 99% sure on.

Yea I have been looking at the coverage map but i don't always trust that, I'm looking more for peoples personal experience switching from verizon to sprint. If I start a sero plan and my coverage sucks i don't want to be locked in for 2 years.

well, for the record I live about 18 miles east of my parents (who have Verizon) and they do nothing but complain about their coverage. I have Sprint, and my personal experience mimicks almost identically the coverage shown on that map. The pockets where it isn't the best coverage for me I see my phone drop to the 1X network but then instantly back to EVDO.

Funny thing is is sprint uses a ton of version towers for their network coverage.

as verizon does with sprint.

bottom line, you have to make sure it works for you. that said, im one who can speak impartially and educatedly (is that a word?) about both and have personally found sprint to be better. coverage is basiacally a push, you may find a spot here or there, but with evdo there is a large difference. the street level maps are prety accurate, but use your 30 day trial period. honesly, with a few exceptions, i dont see why anyone with a pda or data card uses vzw over sprint

yes, 30-day trial works with the SERO plan as well.

After 20 years with Verizon I switched in January to a Sprint Q and feel I have the same coverage in Southern NH as I did with Verizon. My difficulty is I live in a weak signal area and at home keep switch between Spring and Roam/1x. This kills a battery quicker than anything. I like Sprints EVDO coverage and stream Slingbox fine while on the area highways. Also WLS works well on the highway.

Can't beat SERO if you can get it. 1/3 the price is a no brainer for me.

Yeah the reason I didn't mention coverage in my post about switching is that I don't care if I have good service at home. I have two pagers and a verizon work cellphone I carry around on top of my personal phone. In an emergency I have other options for calls, email and texts. The wifi in my house will provide connection to the net as well if it turns out my house is a dead spot.

Yeah I made the switch. I left 'the network' because I am sick of getting thrown under the rug as a customer wanting a smart phone.
