Why the hell does it take so long just send files to your Q through the usb connection? I've turned off file conversions and what not. If I transfer a 800 mb file to my Q it takes like a half an hour. Thats make crazy. I transfered all 5 episodes of Afro Samurai on my Q, and let the transfer begin. I switched to play Madden on PS3, and after the game it was just finishing the transfer. And we all know how long those games of madden be lasting.

One of the main benefits of EVDO is the ability for a call to interrupt a data session. There was a similar issue with certain PPC-6700's, and Sprint finally addressed it with a software fix. Let's hope they offer a fix for our Q's very soon.
I just wanted to say I haven't experienced any of the bugs listed in the initial post. Including the no calls on EVDO one I quoted above. I have in fact had several calls interrupt my browsing (While the data was downloading still), and Pocket IE just stops loading the page as if I clicked the stop button and I answer the call, then I have to reload the page I was trying to see. It does indeed seem to be an either/or (Though I have not tried browsing while in a call).

The only bugs I have experienced, that I can recall, are the phone lockup (Not related to making a call) where you can still answer calls but not use the phone otherwise, though I have only had this happen twice over the life of the phone thus far. The other "bug" being text entry not being able to keep up with me with me, but as mentioned earlier, that is easily remedied (And most people dont type that fast anyway).

I am the original author of this thread. I just wanted to clarify something. I did receive a replacement Q from Sprint, and it's been flawless. None of the issues I mentioned in my original post have plagued my replacement unit.

Just wanted to update everyone as it seems some people read my post and it scared them off. For the record, the Q is better than any other phone I've used...and I've used just about every WM/Palm phone/PDA/Smartphone out there.

Default New Q, only 1 issue

I had stopped by this site before I even got my Q and was almost scared off, but others kept saying what a great phone it is. I got it Friday morning and my learning curve is now flat. I feel very comfortable with it and understand a lot of what is going with one exception. At seemingly random times or arbitrary situations, it goes to the home screen. I have noticed this mostly while on the network surfing the web but I see it in all places...it just drops what it's doing and heads to the home screen. Does anyone know a fix for this or a setting to change?

I started with a Treo 600 years ago, upgraded to the 650 and when I realized I wasn't going to be getting an iPhone anytime soon, my reality check sent me to the Q. This is the best thing I have seen! My only knock on the Q is numerically listed speed dial. I LOVED being able to set "H" for my house, ''W" for work and so on. I don't even use the scroll wheel, but that is okay.

Your homescreen button has happened to me.. when I accidentallty press the homescreen button when press the left softkey. It actually helps to have one of those silicon skins Verizon sells (Easier to press the buttons).

As for speed-dial... when at the home screen, just star typing someones name, store a Home and Work contact even, you dont have to do it by number. Or set up a speed dial for W and H.

A portion of the definition of EVDO from Wikipedia.org:

"Originally, 1xEV-DO stood for "1x Evolution-Data Only", ...... ..... Later, likely due to the possible negative connotations of the word "only" in its marketing, the "DO" part of the standard's name 1xEV-DO was changed to stand for "Data Optimized"."

we can only hope that soon they will have the 3G data & voice networks completed in america AKA HSDPA (Wiki it...) on a W-CDMA network which is already being implemented in at least 64 countries across the world... God, America lives in the stone ages!

Start -> Settings -> D Home Screen -> scroll to the bottom under "Time Out"

This is the length of "inactive" time before it will go back to your home screen.

Maybe you have it set to 10 seconds?

Default WM Player bug?

Okay here's something that's been annoying me lately:

Listening to Windows Media Player.

Autolock after 5 minutes

Return to home screen After 5 minutes.

If I leave my windows media player on the WMP screen (blue, WMP buttons etc) and my phone locks itself and puts itself back to the home screen, i can't unlock it! The only thing that works is holding down the power key until it turns off. Any suggestions or is this just another bug to add to the list???

Otherwise, I've had my phone for almost 2 weeks now and it has had no serious issues... just a couple annoying bugs

I've been having the same problem with my music. My solution (in reference to using a MiniSD card of course...): Go straight from the computer to the MiniSD with an adapter...super cheap, super fast!

I've never seen any phone 2 computer interface work fast (Treo, Moto Q, ROKR)... i think it has to do with that "conversion" process it has to make (?)

A "fix" to the calls while in EVDO has been posted here.
