Actually, pre-Q i had insurance on two phones when it was $5.00 a month. I decided to cancel the insurance on both since we always seem to (knock on wood) buy new before they break, and pick up the $15.00 a month data plan. So, I see my Q as only costing me $1.00 more a month...I'll buy that for a dollar.

what's the deductible for the sprint insurance? $50? And do you / can you get a new phone at a store OR do you have to wait a couple weeks and get it in the mail?

think maybe sometimes it might be more convenient (but expensive) if your phone is a total loss to just pay the early termination fee of $175 . . . and then sign up for new service? (then again, would be be able port over your old number?)

you should always check portability before porting your number, but i canceled my service and paid the ETF and was able to port my number fine from Verizon to Sprint.

that's good to hear, you didn't get hassled or the runaround or delays when porting your number from VZW?

It wasn't too bad. When I verified to VZW that i authorized Sprint to port-in my number, I did have to listen to the lady repeatedly say, "you do know, Verizon Wireless is America's Most Reliable Wireless Network". I said yeah, I know, I've never had any problems with Verizon, but I can't justify what I'm paying compared to what I'd pay with Sprint. She said, well cheaper isn't always better. Told her I'd take my chance.

Honestly I can't tell much of a difference in signal, service, speed, or clarity, just some of the nuances of the Sprint Q vs. the Verizon Q. It took about 2-3 hours to be able to make/receive calls once i ported, and the text messaging didn't work completely for about 12 hours. May have something to do with the differences in Sprint's SMS system from Verizon's. All in all it was fairly painless, and although I very much liked Verizon, I am very happy with the $15 unlimited data and $10 unlimited texts.

the only problem with VZW when u port one of their numbers to another carrier is listening to them beg and offer. I sold sprint for years and anytime we had verizon on the phone they never quite let up. I dont know how many times i told them to just shut up and finish the port my customer didnt want their service anymore lol.

As for sprints insurance, its a trade off. Eventually u end up paying for it anyway, be it in the 7 a month or some other bs that pops up. I pay the 7.00 a month so i know im covered no matter what, and i dont have to worry about ins fraud when i report it stolen because it feel in the toilet or something.

I personally feel the insurance is worth the $7/month. I had numerous problems with my previous phone, and it was replaced twice although it was always replaced with a refurb, becasue it was a mfr. defect. When I got the Q, I kept the insurance and asked the rep. to explain how this new replacement program works. He told me that; "If it is a mfr. defect then Sprint will repair or replace the device at no cost to you. But if it is your fault, i.e. water damage, lost, washing machine ride, etc... then you have to pay the 50 replacement fee. If you dont have the insurance then you'll end up paying full price for the replacement." I guess it depends on your lifestyle too, in my spare time I'm a volunteer firefighter and usually always have my phone in my pocket at scenes, there are those times where you get drenched and everything in your pockets do too. So I guess if you are pretty careful with your phone you would'nt need it. The only thing that was not clearified to me was if a replacement, will be a refurbished unit or not.
