Default Q Windows Browser update...?

I just got my Q and when I connect to sites like yahoo, etc...It says something like I'm curently using Internet Explorer 4.0...and for the best results I should update..

question is where do I get the update? Do I have to download it on my home PC and then install it onto my Q through Active Sync? or something?...what program exactly is it that I need?...windows mobile explorer 5? ...6?...7?

thanks

You don't, because there is no such update.

Those sites are basically checking the User Agent string to determine what browser you have. The Q's browser is identifying itself as IE 4.01. If they did the check better, they'd see that you're really using a Windows CE browser and not bother you with the message (other than to say that you may not be able to use some features on the site).

There are registry hacks you can make to pretend to be different browsers, but you usually only do them if a site won't let you in. See my Browser User Agent Changes post for details.

Default

Keep in mind if you change your user agent, you won't get re-directed to mobile sites. For example, EverythingQ automatically re-directs you to the mobile site based on your browser's identification of itself. If you change it, you'll always get the full sites designed for a PC browser.

That's true, which is why I said you should only change it if a site won't let you in (or if you don't want the mobile site, I suppose). The implication is that you should change the User Agent back to the default when you're done at the site that requires it.

Another thing to do if you want to keep the User Agent set to the desktop browser mode but still want some of the mobile sites you use is to bookmark the mobile sites instead of the full sites.

For example, for EverythingQ, bookmark http://www.everythingq.com/index.php...late=xe_mobile (it might not look quite right in a desktop browser, but you'll see the difference). Why they couldn't just use something like mobile.everythingq.com is beyond me.
