Default New MMS (read: PictureMail) Service

So heres the short story, I'm tired of not being able to picturemail anybody with my Q. Its sad when my friend has a crappy free phone and can send picture after picture and we can't. So here is my thought. I have a good bit of web based (php / mysql / ajax) programming, and I have a server with loads of bandwidth (I used .5 % this last month even hosting a site with like 4000 uniques a week). I think I'm going to program something up where you will go and register, it will give you a special email address. You add that email to your contacts. You then make a new email to that address, and put the new recipient as the subject. You attach the photo, it will upload to the server and store it for 1 month. It will then send a text message to the user saying that (your username, or phone number, whichever you choose) has sent new picture mail and click a link to view, or I might even go as far as attaching the pic to the mms (more on that later). I am yet to come up with the big picture of this whole thing yet, I just need to know what you guys all think and what the expected usability of this would be. I also need to know if anybody would be interested in testing this for me. I am going to limit the amount of pics a month that a user can send, but if you are an EQ user you will have unlimited!

Sorry for the long winded post, but I wanna hear some feedback and ideas before I start programming it up.

Thanks

Ryan

That sounds great if you can get it to work! I have no idea how you would go about doing this, but hopefully if you decide to attempt it you can figure out a way to send it as a standard mms so the recipient won't have to pay data charges.

I can't say specifics but the isp that I work for does a lot in the northeast ohio cellular market with verizon and sprint so mms style will prob be the way ill do it.

hmmmm...

If the recipient recieves it as a txt, but them needs to follow a link to the content..how would this differ from sending an email the the recipients phone? The recipient will still need data access to view the content.

Default True

Come to think of it, that is true. How will we do since it will still be the same thing. We just need an app that will let us attach pictures to text messages and send them to phones and not emails.

To the above few posts, this will allow you to send them and people receive them on their phone instead of having them click a link.

I need this currently (from non sprint people, so if you know someone could you tell them to do so). I need people with verizon, alltel, att, and whatever other providers there are to send a text message to grewell912@gmail.com

Thanks

I provided a link with the number@carrier.com addresses in other post

I would imagine mot carriers would reject or redirect a txt with an attachment. good luck anyways
