My Windows Mobile 6.1 mini-review So after installing WM 6.1 on my Sprint Q9C yesterday, I have a few observations. 1.GPS initializes much quicker. I use Sprint Navigation, primarily to find pubs in Fremont and Ballard, but thought I’d fire it up this morning to monitor traffic on the way in. Probably 25 seconds faster to get running. One note, for the first time ever I received a low GPS signal warning going through the big tunnel on 90, but otherwise it was smooth and seemed more efficient. 2.The sliding panel home screen was designed by a genius. I’ve been trying to tool my own XML to make a custom theme to display data much like this. It is beautiful. 3.PIE. The zoom out, zoom in function is super. I was very uncertain at first, and actually thought I hated it. Turns out I needed some coffee. Now that I have the hang of it, I think it’s definitely a must have. 4.The biggie, threaded SMS. I’ve been hearing about this as long as I can remember and this alone was the reason so many people were going nuts for this upgrade. I have never had a threaded SMS client so couldn’t see the need for it. Having used it for a day, wow.. This is a really cool function. Keeps the SMS inbox much more tidy and considerably easier to work with. 5.Stability. I actually think the phone is more solid now. I know it’s only been 20 hours, but I do use this phone a lot and have a pretty good feeling for how it’s running. Of course, I haven’t reinstalled everything yet, but no matter, it’s pretty solid. All in all, I’m thinking this was a good move. If you have a Sprint phone that can be upgraded and you haven’t yet, you might want to. I think you’ll be pleased. |
