Windows Mobile Device Center - Not Working - Motorola Q Forum

It hasn't been working for about 3 mos, but I tried to just disregard and only install cabs, edit from phone, etc. but... I figured that I probably need this to work...

So I have Windows Vista Business SP1 (didn't work before SP1 anyway...), a Q9c from sprint.

I have tried to uninstall and reinstall WMDC, didn't do anything. My phone gets charged when the USB is in, but I don't get any response from my PC at all. No WMDC pops up, no USB driver trying to be installed, nothing: doesn't even show in windows Explorer.

I know the phone is not a problem, because I can plug it into other computers fine. I cannot even start WMDC when nothing is plugged in... It simply doesn't open! I really need help with this... I've got nothing. Do I need to uninstall, reinstall some driver? But what about my WMDC not opening even without a phone plugged in? Any ideas?

other things to try..
reboot - pc and Q
different USB cable

on your pc...
go to the control pannel and open up device center and look for any " ! " where the usb is listed. I you see one, select to uninstall the device. Reboot pc. Reinstall WMDC if needed then connect Q

also if you have a firewall or other security software, dissable it before connecting Q

As to the device manager thing: you may be on to something!

I found one regarding the USB, uninstalled, rebooted and now its gone. Cool! Thats good.

huh, you should be able to select the Q and continue the setup.

If it doesn't let you, delete the partnership on pc and Q and reconnect the device.

I wasn't able to get WMDC to work at all even though Windows detected my phone via USB. I would double click the icon in the control panel and nothing would happen. So I just googled Windows Mobile Device Center download and it led me to a MS page that allowed me to download and install it. After that, it worked beautifully.

I have had similar problems. I guess it is related to SP1 so try to install all new updates for SP1. I guess Windows installs only important updates. I advice to look at all the updates available. Another thing..Go to settings and play with switching between different connections (Rndis, Serial...).

goin to try and answer all of those:
1. I have reinstalled WMDC numerous times
2. It showed no partnerships- apparently I deleted it earlier
3. it never worked even before sp1

OK - I have reinstalled whatever drivers neccesary... and I see this:

Which is good... but still my WMDC never ever opens. Sometimes I see a little splash screen but most of the time I get nothing. I really need help with this.
