As a new member to the smartphone community, i've noticed that people charge an outrageous amount of money for phone applications. i was looking for a chess game, $25,that is crazy.
Especially when the could could be ported over from any other homebrew chess. Maybe my view on apps is skewed coming from a psp homebrew community where everyone does everything for free to better everyone's psp. On the other hand i do understand everything takes time and work to make these programs, But it also takes time for people to develop in other homebrew communities.......
is it just because there is a market and we have no other place to go? so they can charge whatever? or is it really that hard to develop for a phone?! a phone is a fairly large investment, along with the money bill, why must i pay so much more for sometime minor improvements?
p.s. im a poor college kid, so hopefully that will help you see where i am coming from
thanx listenin to my rants

Reason: formatted better
i think in a lot/most cases it took the developer quite some time to develop and release a application, plus the follow up for support.. updates, well you get my drift. from what i see in most cases the prices are fair, which obviously also depends on your needs.. see i would probably not even pay 5 dollars for a chess game, yet i purchased Mahjongg for i believe it was $14.95.. see what i mean.
Yeah, I hear you Poor College Student. Been there, done that. Now I'm a Poor Working Man. Ha-Ha!!
What ^^ they said is true...what is it worth to you? I think that the $99 I paid for for my Q was a fair price (rebates included, of course) but balked at $15-20 for something like Papyrus or Resco Explorer, but got one on sale and have so come to appreciate the other that that money, divided by the useage and time of ownership will daily become less negligible.
Not to demean what you believe or the past that you lived (how cool it must have been!) but I've had to reset my priorities and some monies here, as oppossed to elsewhere, have made all the difference to me... Hope to hear more from you in the future!!
