Default Want Movies / TV on your Q?

I just got the coolest new device to copy movies directly to your mini sd card. Check out the Sandisk V-Mate, you plug it into your dvd player and tv and it records and dvd or tv program directly to your card. You can store up to 7 hours of video on a 2gb card. Check it out, I love it.

This is a cool device, Im going to look into it. Now it takes me an hour or 2 and some luck, to get a DVD converted to play on my pda or Q. This looks like a much easier solution. Thanks.

What formats does it do?

Have you tried the TCPMP player? That should be able to handle most anything you throw at it.

I agree - try the TCPMP core player (make sure that you install the smartphone version).

Aside from this issue - what do you think of the VMate? Is it easy to use, and how much did you pay for it? Does it handle 'protected/encrypted' dvd's?

Whats the size in mb's of a 1/2 recording?

thanks.

Default V-Mate

Well, The V-mate uses MPEG-4(PSP), MPEG-4(ISO), 3GP, and 3G2. I am currently using the MPEG-4(ISO) settings. I plays back on my q with descent results. I've been messing around with different settings to see which ones work the best. I'm using a 1Gb card and for some reason when I record a movie it will stop about 35 minutes into the movie and it only has about 260mb of movie stored...not sure why it's stopping!

So far I think that the V-mate is a cool gadget...I haven't quite figured everything out yet...a work in progress. I haven't tried the TCPMP player yet...I will have to look into it. The V-mate is $129 and comes with everything you need...and from what I've seen a whole movie around 2 hours or so is around 500 or so MB.

I have had the V-Mate for about 3 weeks now. There are no specific settings for the Q so I used the custom settings. I had to play around for a while to make it play properly on my Q. I use TCPMP free version and it works great. I have hours of South Park, Simpsons, and The Chappell show on it. I will check my setting on it tonight and post tomorrow my exact settings so you can make it work. I love it, the picture quality is amazing. I will do what I can to help.

Can the VMate record from a DVD, or is it designed to record from TV only? When you record from TV how does it work, does the VMate have a tv tuner, or do you have to tune your TV to the correct channel? Does it have a timer, so that you can record a show at 3:00am?

Thanks

The V-mate can record from anything that has RCA connections. Check out the SanDisk website and it will tell you what devices you can record from. My TV setup is funky and I have not figured out how to hook everything up with the DVR setup and all the other components I have hooked up. I'm hoping to figure it out soon. I does have a timer and you can schedule stuff to record.
