I don't think I have an unreasonable amount of contacts, probably around 200. These are combined contacts with cell #, email, address (sometimes). Currently I have about 15mb free on my stock 64mb. If I purchase a mini SD card to expand the memory will this solve the problem? Also, has anyone else seen this problem?
Thanks,

I had same problem -- I think it was the pictures linked to the contacts, causing the memory issue when voice recognition was activated.
I removed all pictures from my contacts, now my voice recognition (and phone) works way faster/better.
This might also be the problem for an SD card slowing down the phone -- the voice recognition is reading the contact info/pictures from the SD card, causing a memory prob
