Default Videos on the Q

I was just curious what the best settings are for videos on the Q? I transferred a few to my Q but they played like a slideshow. I lowered the resolution to 640 x 480 and still was slow. Also, what bitrate should the movies be set at?

You should encode to 320x240 or 320x??? if you want to keep the aspect ratio the same as the original.

Your screen is only 320x240 so any more than that is wasting CPU power and filespace.

I use pocketdivxencoder and encode to an xvid file at around 300kbps for video and 64kbps stereo for audio.

That gives you a 2 hour movie at around 300Mbps that plays great in TCPMP.

I don't recall my exact settings, so I could be a little off.

What would be the best and easiest program to install for the DVD transfer to one's Motorola Q? There seem to be quite a few. Before I purchase any suggestions? Or is TCPMP the "one" to have that is user friendly?

Thank you kindly in advance for anyone's time with a follow-up to this question.

Regards,
abb

tcmp is a media player, its free and it works great, plays pretty much any format. I use vault 360 to reformat movies to fit my Q. its not a free option but all you do is select motorola q from the list and it pretty much takes care of the rest. very simple.

Smile Thanks - works perfectly

Thank you so much!
I just got the Q and I'm playing around with it - already got a 2GB mini SD card.

I just encoded my first video, per your recommendations - I'm so happy I didn't have to spend all that time experimenting to get the perfect settings for conversion. I watched part of my first video file and it is playing great, and it and sounds great too. I also think that 150MB for an hour video is pretty darn good.

I'm an old time Palm User (Palm TX), newly converted to the Motorola Q world. The Q's screen is smaller than my Palm TX but it's amazing how great the videos look and sound. I really like the little Q.

To make things REALLY easy for ripping DVDs to your Q, check out a program called Vault360.
