Default IR Remote Software

Even if you find software to do this, you probably won't be happy with the results.

My understanding is that most Windows Mobile devices don't use Consumer Infrared (CIR) ports, and so the range is very limited (the ports are designed for short-range beaming between two devices close to each other). A few Pocket PCs (like the iPAQ 2210 and the Mobile Media Companion 3xxx series) did use CIR (and included a bundled remote control program), but I haven't heard of any Smartphones doing that.

So, even with the software, you'd probably need to be very close to the TV and point the Q directly at it. And even that would be a bit difficult because of the IR port's position on the left side of the device.

I had an hp ppc and it did not have CIR, yet i could still use it for my tv remote, just had to aim it correctly.

I didn't say that you couldn't use it, just that the range wouldn't be very good and you'd have to point it right at the device. There were some packages that came with remote boosters to improve the range (one had a CF card with IR lights, another had a dongle that you plugged into your headset jack).

Out of curiosity, what model iPAQ did you have? If it was one of the models that came with remote control software built-in, you probably had CIR, too.

don't remember the specific model, but it might of had CIR, but i was told that the ir was very low grade.

All I know is that I could use it as a tv remote (had to buy a program), and also could beam to my IR printer.
