Default Threaded SMS Explaination

so i decided to contact the maker of IMSMS (the most recent threadedsms program claimed to work on the Q) and find out for sure if it would work and if not what the actual reason is

Here is the response I got from them:

[FONT='Times New Roman','serif']Hi Scott-

Yes, this is confirmed: IMSMS relies on poom library from Microsoft. The motorola's who have MOL 2 or 3 updates seem to break the library. Instead, another internal library must be used - but it is not an easy one and because it requires alot of compromise, it won't be an alternative solution

This I recall reading about is not a MICROSOFT issue - but instead a Motorola problem. It seems they require another update to fix this "breaking" issue with the POOM library. You can install IMSMS on the Q just fine. IT will receive SMS and will send - however you may encounter some garbled text - I am testing another possible fix in the meantime between builds.

Please see this thread for more information about IMSMS. Thank you so much for your inquiries!

That's good to know. I wonder how soon they will have it running? I wonder why Microsoft and the phone manufactures didnt include threadedSMS? Its on most other phones.

Ya know -- after all of our efforts to get this threading to work on the Q, we will finally get it, play with it for a few days, then say "nah, i'd rather go back to normal..." Hehe... Maybe not. My wife has threading on her Treo 700p, and I think it's totally cool!

It looks like enough people are aware of the situation, that something may come of it....

Instead of intercepting, i wonder if it would work if there was an app that would just take the text contents (after it was received) and place a copy into a thread-like application. That way there's no fuss about intercepting it and all that jazz... just a work around thought, I am by no means a SW developer, so I am just brainstorming.

Oh yea, the new photocontacts pro suffers from the same issues that plague TXTman....

Are there any working "auto respond to call with SMS" type programs out there that work with the Q? Or do those have the txtman disease as well? Careful it's contagious!

Later,

Matt!
