Default TCMP slow?

I have the latest version of TCMP, but when playing larger movies it seems to buffer a lot. Anyone have any suggestions?

Resample the movies to a smaller bit-rate. You gotta remember we're dealing with a 300MHz cpu with very limited resources... imagine a base-line computer back in 1998 trying to run the same movie, and you'd probably end up with the same results

Depends on format.... I typically use either Windows Media Encoder (using the SDK Batch example)

I have mine set at the defaults:
  • 576KB normal buffer size
  • 70% preload at underrun
  • 64KB preload for audio
Granted I use PocketDivXEncoder to re-encode my movies (about 225MB when finished) and TV episodes (about 90MB for 1hr ep), but I've had no problems with buffering.

Best,
.

Nice page bro...anyway what do you suggest for buffering settings. I was using tcmp to watch youtube via the Q9m wifi and life was great until I started "tuning" everything. I don't know where I went wrong but I believe it was in buffer land. I couldn't remember what the default buffer settings were so I just uninstalled tcmp and reinstalled it to reacquire those settings. I always thought bigger was better but I was wrong. Anyway that seemed to fix the issues I was having with it loading.

I'm going to give PockedDivx a shot. What do your settings look like in there?

Contrary to what I had said in an earlier post somewhere here, my settings are as follows:
  • Phone type: PDA
  • Output
    • Video: 12
    • Audio: 44100Hz, 32kbps, Stereo
  • Advanced
    • VHQ checked
    • XviD checked
This yields a ~2hr movie @ ~225±10MB and a 1hr tv ep @ ~95±5MB.

You didn't ask, but the programs I use are:
  1. cladDVD.NET (to rip from DVD)
  2. DVD2AVI (to convert to AVI)
  3. VirtualDub (to reencode it in XviD & sound I like)
  4. PocketDivXEncoder (to shrink it to Qable size)
Hope this helps; keep the rubber-side down.

Best,
.
