Default Tasks Software Recommendation

I'm using the Tasks function on Outlook to stay on top of projects and deadlines. I use two PCs, one running Vista and the other running XP, plus a Q 9c.

Things seem like they work okay, except for the reminders. My phone had alert after syncing today for a reminder I set for May. I constantly am alerted with reminders whenever I sync, regardless if I'm supposed to be.

My guess is that there is a better program for managing tasks than Outlook and am seeking recommendations. Here are my requirements:
  • I must be able to manage tasks directly on my PC (both on Vista and XP)
  • I want reminders to alert me and be able to see the tasks by reminder date
  • Obviously, I need to be able to manage and enter tasks on my Q as well
  • I want the ability to attached emails from Outlook the tasks
Any suggestions/recommendations?

(If there is a way to resolve the alert problem on the Q, that will work fine as well)

Thanks in advance.

I live in Outlook and rely heavily upon Tasks and Calendars. I find the PIM replacements indispensible (and dramatically improve functionality and usability on smartphones). They use the Outlook data sets and dramatically improve access and input via the Smartphone:
  • PocketInformant - by WebIS
    • A little more robust, many configuration options
  • AgendaOne - by DeveloperOne's
    • A little easier to use "out of the box"
  • Papyrus - by SBSH
    • Orignally set the standard for these apps but is a little out of date; should see a major upgrade soon.
  • Extreme Agenda - by Birdsoft
    • I have never used but have heard good things about it
I have both PocketInformant and AgendaOne installed on my devise; PI is my current default.

Others you may wish to consider:

  • To Do Lists - uses task specific Outlook data but does not tie in Calendar
    • ToDo Lists - by Oxios
  • List apps - no Outlook sync
    • ListPro - by Ilium

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've seen other people talk favorably about ExtremeAgenda. The program does not allow me to sort by reminders/alerts, which is what I really need.

PocketInformant and ToDo Lists might be viable options. I've emailed both with specific questions. PocketInformant has some fans on David Allen's GTD forum.

Payprus does not look like it has the functionality I need, but I emailed them to be sure. We'll see what they say.

ToDo Lists looks good for those with lots of lists. I need more of a task management system however.

Thanks again! The list gave me some good ideas to work off of.

Most of these include free trials, so give them a shot. That said, I believe PocketInformant is the solution for you ... very robust feature set.
