Default still tethered modem after upgrade?

so let me get this straight. i used to be able to use the phone as a modem w/o additional cost before my upgrade. now after upgrading the software, i can't without an ADDITIONAL cost? i've tried using the tethered approach with the new firmware but i can't make a connection. does anyone have any suggestions?

is there something i'm missing?

is there a way to reinstall the prior version?

help

thanks

Well.. since you still have to purchase PDANet, you're just paying someone else (a one-time-fee).

I apologize for digging this thread up from a year ago... Does pdanet work on the moto q? I have a Verizon Treo 700w that is works great on. I am thinking about switching to the Q for something different. Teathering is very important for me though. Thank you!

You can tether without any third-party software.

Is this with a Verizon Q? Are there any additional costs?

I'm not sure about a Verizon Q. Though I have heard of Verizon locking some of their other phones down such as the Bluetooth in some of their RAZR models. I do know there are no addtional costs in addition to your data plan for using the tethered DUN. The provider can't tell the difference between your phone and a PC behind it. To do this on Windows, I think you have to find a driver for the phone, set it up as a modem, and dial that way. I use Ubuntu/Kubuntu linux. I plug the phone in, and set up the wvdial.conf if I have not done it already (30 seconds). Then I dial out.

Any tethering done with a VZW device that is not paid to VZW at a monthly cost has the potential to have your service deactivated. On a normal handset their price is $59.99 and on an advanced device it is $44.99 for data + $15.00 for tethereing = $59.99.

This is because in the terms in conditions they say that they provide internet access at $59.99 a month. So they have the right to term your service for breaking contract.

I did however, have a guy that came in and was using a Motorola V710 for 2 years tethering and was never noticed. Not pitching the $15.00 since I think it is a rip off if you are already giving them $44.99 but I just thought I would let you know.
