Default Sprite Backup Lite for WM5 -- Not Backing Up Files

I recently downloaded a trial copy of Sprite Backup for WM5 after discusing its merits on another thread. Enough has changed since then to warrent this post It's no longer about finding the software in question, but rather about how it functions, or does NOT function.

After following the directions I attempted to backup my SprintQ. It didn't work. Re-tried: still nothing. Re-downloaded the .cab file from an EQ member's website and re-tried: more nothing. Off to the Sprite site in New Zealand. (Now it gets interesting). I was able to DL a copy directly to the Q: nothing. Sent them an e-mail and got a new .cab file by return mail: you guessed it!! Still unable to backup the Q using Sprite...in fact; the .cab they sent me said it "could not be viewed on this device" even though I already have a copy on my device, and I know of OP with a copy on theirs. HA!!

So. Is there anything I still need to learn about Sprite; is there anything I can do this weekend to get this program working? It is very important for me to have a means of backing up my data as I DO NOT HAVE A PC. The only other option is to make a big file on my SC and copy what will copy from the Q to the SC, something, if possible, none of us would look forward to doing!!

So. Any suggestions?

Where does it blow up? I thought maybe other apps (DontForget, GPRS stuff) were starting up at the same time as the Sprite back up so I un-installed them and retried...still failed. My "device lock"ing upon restart was the culprit. I too downloaded many copies of Sprite. Even read the whole Sprite forum.

Thanks, TreeFrog...uhhh...it's not locking up; it's not backing up. The app (which in other thread I so highly praised) runs fine; does everything up to the point of soft reset...starts to start the back up, gives me a fail notice, then another soft reset!! It's polite if nothing else!! :har-har-har: Nothing running in the background...kinda particular about that (altho rb and n99 say "not to worry").

Got a weekend ahead of me and a few more days of trial period. Something to do...oh, read about the little quick thingy you had to do with yours...sweet. Let me play with this bad boy some more. It's always better for me to take that approach than to "try to make this damthing work". Like I said, it's the weekend--no work allowed!!

Will e-mail Sprite nonetheless. Thanks again.

DOH!...Whoot! Whoot! So I've discovered that if you sit quietly and stare at your Q long enough, the answer will come to you. Seems the program does all it's supposed to do and very well, thank you very much!! My problem was right in front of me--making it all the more difficult to see.

I had been asking Sprite Backup Lite to backup my Q and (here's my mistake!) also the Storage Card. The joke's on ol' winotree--the SD does not need a backup. So...the app works; it'll get paid for; and I did not send that e-mail to New Zealand. Just don't know if I want to follow their suggestion and perform a master reset to fully test their product.

Thanks for stopping by--but no thanks to the MR!! Had to do it twice since getting SprintQ in April. Blame it on squirrely beta software both times. I've made some inner changes and added several cool apps, but am willing to take it nice and easy. Guess that's what makes the Q unique!!
