yeah, i know i can use the speed dial feature to start programs that way, but it takes too long to hold down the button until the program started, and it seems to take 5 times as long to load the program that way. |

(My Q was unstable, not sure I can directly attribute to AEButtonPlus)
There's a few things you can do besides AEButtonPlus that doesn't involve installing programs :
1) You can remap the QuickApp (holding down the home key)... I have QuickLauncher startup. Here's a forum that explains this (scroll down to "Use QuickApp key for something else!")
http://www.qusers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2032
1b)You can also remap some keys using the [Remap device keys] post below that... but not as useful.
1c) If you don't need a hotkey for instant camera access
....you can remap your camera key with a registry hack:
\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Camera\
@ "Application" (string) = "\Windows\zapit.exe"
> just update the value with "\path\yourapp.exe" without quotes
2) You can Add Shortcuts to replace Apps. Since I dont *ever* use the Voice Recognition, I changed mine to launch the "left menu" from the Right Menu program. For example, you can launch a "New SMS" by creating this shortcut: 20#"\windows\tmail.exe" -service "SMS" -to ""
Here's a forum that has a whole bunch of Windows shortcuts:

** NOTE ** A lot of these are for PPC (touchscreen)
