Exclamation SlingPlayer Mobile Info

You can download SlingPlayer Mobile from slingbox.com and use it for 30 days before having to register it. Make sure you have SlingPlayer set up on your PC with your Slingbox set up, then install SlingPlayer Mobile from the .exe file (not the .CAB file). That way, your Slingbox directory (the settings for your Slingbox) will be transferred to your mobile device.

I was one of the first 20 beta testers for SlingPlayer Mobile--my all time favorite mobile software title ;)

Got it, installed it, loving it.

I did encounter some problems during installation. I got as far as the screen to add the connection to the directory but, although everything was hooked up, it didn't see the Slingbox. I ended up calling tech support (got someone who was nice but very hard to understand because of a heavy accent, finally had to ask him to speak more slowly - disappointed that Sling outsources their tech support overseas) and nothing he tried seemed to work, even after I disabled every last bit of internet protection I had on that machine.

Long story short, it finally worked, only after - on a whim - I checked to see whether my software-based VPN would still work. As soon as I activated the VPN GUI, the Slingbox made its connection. I've since rebooted that computer, and restored all the security stuff I had before and it works fine. I was nervous because, if I had to use my employer's VPN to watch the Sling, that was going to be a problem!

No idea why activating the VPN did it, or whether that was just coincidental.

Getting Mobile onto the phone was a snap.

Now I have a question for you experienced SlingPlayer Mobile users. I'm watching the local news from my desk at work. It's been on for maybe 20 minutes and twice it's just dumped out on me. Once it didn't offer any explanation and once it gave me an error that it had a "weak stream". (Yes, that's what it said, sorry.) Both times, I was able to restart it with no problem.

I'm concerned that it's just a fact of life in this burial vault I work in, although the phone (voice) signal seems strong enough now that I switched carriers. Any ideas what this could mean - anything I might be able to adjust?

I see the "weak network connection" occasionally, even with a strong signal. It simply goes with the territory, I suppose.

We've had bumpy crazy weather here last night and today. Nothing severe by Weather Service standards, but very strong winds and a lot of rain. Each time I used my SlingPlayer Mobile this afternoon, it took a loooooong time to locate the signal (about a minute on "Locating" -- "Connecting" and "Starting" were their normal times), and then, after it had, the reception was choppy, freezing frequently for as long as 30 seconds at a time. When I went to Audio Only, it was fine.

My presumption is that the bad weather affected the wireless reception of video by my Q(9c). Is that something others have experienced? I may be kidding myself.

If this is not something others can relate to, if stormy weather doesn't affect the use of the Sling, that's fine too; I'm just trying to learn what's normal to expect in terms of day-to-day behavior.

mine is very choppy, and when i start it up it actually comes up with with a small screen in the middle and on the bottom another tiny screen thats half off and half on...it only works when i have it on full screen...am i missing a setting or something? do i have the wrong version?

i see there are two versions the pocketpc and the smartphone one...i dl'd the smartphone one

I just had a phone call while I was watching Sling on my Q9. I didn't know it till the voicemail alert went off because I wasn't looking directly at the screen at the time (had the local news on while I'm working).

I've tried to find where I can tell Sling to step aside when a call comes in - at least let the phone ring, maybe even disconnect the Sling signal (to save me the hassle of having to do that while someone's waiting for me to answer). No luck, though, in the online Help on the phone, nor on Slingmedia.com.

I'm sure there's a way to do that and I'm just not seeing it. Can someone tell me where to set it that way? Thanks!
