Is it basically the same as number of "channels", or something altogether different?

Another Sling question for those of you already experienced with using it on a Q* -- I don't have any kind of cable box or DVR or anything like that. I just want to be able to plug my coax coming out the wall into the back of a Slingbox. Up till tonight I'd thought my only option is the Slingbox Pro since it's the only model I've seen anywhere lately that has a coax input on the back. Then tonight I found a "Slingbox Tuner" on Office Depot's site (link) for $179.

I've kicked myself for not buying the Slingbox Classic before they pulled it off the shelves, but is the Tuner a new version of that?
The 9 max slings means 9 total slingboxes. I have 4 hooked up (3 are work ones). And I think the "Tuner " one is what your looking for and pretty sure I've seen the "Classic" still on EBAY.

The classic has a direct coax hookup and is a great choice for Q9c slinging.

Unfortunately the Classic's been off the market for quite a while and I'm reluctant to spend the money people are asking for them on Ebay. Office Depot's website lists the Slingbox Tuner which would also have worked but, although the website says it's in stock, it isn't. I tried ordering it myself on the website ("sorry - discontinued"), calling the 800 number where I got a guy who could barely speak English but I got that it was discontinued, and called my local store where they tried ordering it for delivery to the store, but again, discontinued. Pretty shabby for an outfit as big as Office Dept to advertise something for sale and in stock when it isn't.

I'm back to watching for the Pro to go on sale again.

Only free if you have a computer set-up for it. How much does the tuner card go for? Plus nobody at home can mess with the computer and it must be left on.

Slingbox is free after you buy the equipment. And I can leave the country for 3 month and stream TV as long as my internet router is up.

A quick Google found the Tuner at Buy.com for $110 w/free shipping and Amazon for $99 plus $9 shipping. I paid $125 plus the $30 for Slingplayer Mobile and it's money well spent.

It doesnt take much to setup a pc to stream with orb, and any average spec'd computer is capable. Prices vary depending on what kind of card and features you want, my tv turner card (PVR150) was only $40 and its the most popular one.
I too can stream from anywhere and everywhere.. tv, recorded shows, movies on my pc, music on pc, documents and pictures as long as my computer has internet connection. All i have to do is open PIE/Opera Mobile, click my favorite and all my media is at my hands.

Cool I didn't know it didn't interfere with other operations. My $30 card wasn't good enough maybe my nxt build will get a card compatable. Sure would be nice to access files fro 5999 miles away.

I swear: I checked Amazon yesterday and the Tuner didn't come up. It's there now, though, no denying it. I admit I hadn't looked at Buy.com (was mostly busy sticking my lower lip out about not being able to walk into Office Depot and buy it - delayed gratification isn't my best thing).

It's gone up a little on both sites - $106 at Amazon and $112 at Buy. Still better than the $179 I was ready to spend yesterday.

Just ordered one - even with paying extra for expedited shipping to hopefully get it before the end of the week, it was still only $131. Take THAT, Office Depot!

NOW I'm excited! Question, though, for DrQ and anyone else who's used Sling with the Q9 -- should I go ahead and buy the Player software from Slingmedia, and have it on a CD standing by for when I install the Tuner, or would it be better to wait till everything is all hooked up and ready for the Player software and download it "hot" at that time?
