Default Skype!!!

UPDATE: NO CHANGE WITH SANDISK ULTRA SD CARD...STILL INTERMITENTLY CHOPPY EVEN WITH ECHO CANCELLATION OFF...THANKS I'M SURE TO NO WiFi, SLOW PROCESSOR, AND LOW IN-DEVICE STORAGE CAPACITY

ANY THOUGHTS?

The Dash version of Skype beta 2.2 for WM5 installs and works on the original Q!

Installation & Tips:
1. download the CAB file from http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-smartphone-cab-beta and copy it to your storage card (it's a large file) using ActiveSync Explore (direct download using the Q browser didn't work)
2. install onto the storage card - again, it's a large program (NOTE: using ActiveSync installation directly to the card didn't work...go figure)
3. Skype installs its own home screen, but I reset it to Verizon default - the Skype screen's fonts and everything else were huge, and not all of the info categories on the default screen were displayed
4. start Skype and
4a. check sign in automatically on the screen where you enter your username and password
4b. select "WiFi and 3G" as your connection type (note: each time you start Skype, you will have to acknowledge a message that WiFi is not available...any tweaks would be much appreciated)
5. In Menu - Settings:
5a. there is an check box to enable/disable Echo Cancellation...turning it on seems to make a call "choppy," but I'm not really sure if this this - I haven't used it that much yet...installing onto a SanDisk Ultra SD card might fix this (I'll post results if I try this)
5b. forward your SkypeIn calls to your cell number when Skype is not running
6. bonus: works fine with Bluetooth headset
7. get SkypeUnlimited ($29.95/year - unlimited calls in US), and reduce your Verizon voice plan minutes!

Yowza!

Yeah, I heard that the smartphone beta of Skype didn't work very well. It doesn't surprise me...the only client they program decently is the windows one.

How about other VOIP stuff? Has anyone used SIP and Gizmo Project on the Q? Are there any good SIP programs out there? Seems like SIP would work much better on the Q.

I am gonna have to try this out. I have been looking for something to be able to just do the IM portion of skype because I have plenty of friends that use it.

I also have installed the PeerMe Smartphone client, because PeerMe has just made available a SkypeOut-like feature with reasonable rates (but nothing approaching the low cost of SkypeUnlimited). Simple interface and much less bloated code than Skype Mobile.

Another idea is a browser-based VOIP client that does not employ Javascript, etc., and so could be accessed on the Q XHTML browser. If anyone is aware of such a site, please post the URL.

Used Skype on my Q today to call my wife (who is visiting family in Korea). Worked wonderfully.

When I try to make a call with Skype the Q goes to speaker phone mode and I can't turn it off and use the phone as normal. Any help?

It will only work over speakerphone or headset. I am using a bluetooth headset and it works great.

Default Successful Skype Instal

If anyone is still having problems installing Skype on their Moto Q I just successfully install it using the version listed on the Skype site as being for the Dopod C720W.

The call I made was a little choppy but using it for IM'ing my family back in the UK works great.
