Default It freaking works

I didnt follow this post and did the same the he did on my own and i can tell you it works. calls suck with one bar of service though. WE NEED WIFI. I for see in the future (25yrs) that this is how 90-95% percent of all call from a mobile phone will go. If anyone doubts it check the patern of numbers of cell phone towers being built and the rate of free WiFi spots. Believe me

ANY THOUGHTS?

The Dash version of Skype beta 2.2 for WM5 installs and works on the original Q!

Installation & Tips:
1. download the CAB file from http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-smartphone-cab-beta and copy it to your storage card (it's a large file) using ActiveSync Explore (direct download using the Q browser didn't work)
2. install onto the storage card - again, it's a large program (NOTE: using ActiveSync installation directly to the card didn't work...go figure)
3. Skype installs its own home screen, but I reset it to Verizon default - the Skype screen's fonts and everything else were huge, and not all of the info categories on the default screen were displayed
4. start Skype and
4a. check sign in automatically on the screen where you enter your username and password
4b. select "WiFi and 3G" as your connection type (note: each time you start Skype, you will have to acknowledge a message that WiFi is not available...any tweaks would be much appreciated)
5. In Menu - Settings:
5a. there is an check box to enable/disable Echo Cancellation...turning it on seems to make a call "choppy," but I'm not really sure if this this - I haven't used it that much yet...installing onto a SanDisk Ultra SD card might fix this (I'll post results if I try this)
5b. forward your SkypeIn calls to your cell number when Skype is not running
6. bonus: works fine with Bluetooth headset
7. get SkypeUnlimited ($29.95/year - unlimited calls in US), and reduce your Verizon voice plan minutes!

Yowza!

Guys,
I have tried SpeaQ to make SIP call with Gizmo. It works but is not consistent. It freezes once in a while. Did anybody find any SIP softphone for Motorola Q ?? I tried installing Jajah and it didn't work for me.

Default Skype - which rings? Computer or Q

Greetings and Thank You to all who post advice on this board.

I just installed Skype on my Q. I had one thought though. If a contact calls me now, will my PC back home start ringing (Skype in systray), or will my Q? Or both? Plus, if I should pick up on my Q, will my home PC just be blaring away my conversation?

(OK, so thats more than *one* thought...)

I will probably do some tests on this over the next couple of nights. So, if it's of interest I will post what I find, here.

Q's are cool aren't they?

So are we still only able to use Skype on speakerphone or a headset? If I forward Skype calls to my cell number, I assume it actually calls through to the number and then uses my cell minutes...?

try setting up skype to go, I use it to call rather than Skype client on my q9c, quality is that of a normal phone call using skype to go...

Packet 8 and Peer Me also have services which allow you to make inexpensive international phone calls. I have tried both and the quality is very good. I am currently using Packet 8. When you dial an international call, the call is redirected to a local number. No extra numbers to dial. Then their server dials the number. I talked to one of our customers in Colombia the other day. It was 5 cents a minute.

Knew of Packet8 as a VOIP provider, but didnt know about the Mobile feature.
Testing it out. Seems to be easy and good international calling rates too.
Thanks for the heads up.
