Default RSS Readers

Greetings Folks,

This is my first post up here. I just found the site through Google now that I have a black Q. As I am familiar with the Windows Mobile coming off a Dell Axim x30, I was familiar with most software that I liked that was also available for Smartphones.

One of the things that I cannot seem to find is a small lightweight RSS reader that will let me download enclosures. In essence a small iPodder client would work. Most of the RSS readers I have seen require the MS .Net framework which, in my opinion, is a huge system hog.

Does anyone know of a good RSS reader that doesn't require the .Net framework, will allow enclosure downloads, and is relatively inexpensive (I'd prefer free.. )? Thanks!

Not sure what you mean by "enclosures," but I like NewsBreak. It downloads podcasts with the feeds.

Default NewsBreak Question

Just installed this on the Q9m...very nice program.
Question for users...after all stores are marked read, how do you delete them? Are they removed at next update, or can you clear them manually from memory?
Thanks much!

You really don't need to delete them. Each will feed will hold a certain number of articles, so they will overwrite each other.

scottjb...thanks for the tip about NewsBreak.

Since recently updating NET 2.0 my old Sprint and Handango OnDemand RSS no longer works and I was looking for a replacement. Ohhh...I tried AvantGO back in May or June but they have "commercials" and after not using it for so long I can't access the site because I don't recall my password :ha-ha: Also tried viigo last month and again this past week...find it so slowwww. Now, NewsBreak on the other hand is snappy!! It's fast like my Q (like to "race" the PC @ work for fun) and I, for one, am willing to spend $$ on something that does what it is supposed to do, right?

So thanks again for the hot tip!! Oh...I am running QOnly (no PC mind you) so I can not boost your rep @ EQ...go ahead and give yourself two gold stars on my account :heh-heh:

Very nice. Just received this reply from the author:
Thank you for contacting Ilium Software. NewsBreak keeps its list of articles 'in sync' with what websites publish in their news feeds. If an article is dropped off a news feed by its website, the corresponding article will be deleted from NewsBreak the next time you refresh it. Otherwise, there isn't a way to delete specific articles manually.

Hello,

I am doing a trial of the NEWSREADER RSS app discussed above -- however, from my experience using it, and from reading the help files, it seems that it only updates when connected to the computer and uses activesync.

Are there any rss feed apps the have the ability to update over the cell/data connection? I mean, that's kinda the entire point....

Thanks,

Matt!

Default NewsBreak

NewsBreak does update...either manually or automatically, via the data connection. I've used this for about a week now, and it works very well on the Q9m.

Paul,

Ok,. i have newsbreak always rinning the background -- and it seems to only update when I sync. what are your settings? Also, is it completely auto -- or do you have to hit REFRESH?

Thanks,

Matt!
