Default RSS Reader Recommendation

I am looking for a good RSS reader, hopefully free.

First of all:

I have searched and read for over an hour and have not found what I'm looking for.

and

I've tried Viigo and don't like it because it's pathetically slow and uses up too much screen real estate.

All I'm really looking for is something fast, that lets me add my own feeds and doesn't have lots of graphics or thick bars that use up valuable screen real estate. I want minimal program features and maximun RSS readability.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Rudeboy! I had tried SplashNews when I first got my Q it caused my Q to freeze/hang up occasionally. Now, can you tell me how NewsBreak stacks up to my criteria? Is is fast, customizable and how is the readability?

I use newsbreak.

its very nice and clean

i have it auto update every hour, and alert me when the words Q9c, Vista, Texas, and hacks. come up in a feed.

i also use it to manage my podcasts (wmexperts does one every week, it auto downloads to my storage card)

Not free though

I use BeyondPod and it feeds podcast too. It's open source and free.

Is BeyondPod fast, and is it reliable? One of the problems I have with Viigo and also Splash News is that they are both very slow. Viigo, however, is more reliable than Splash News. Splash News will not always download and I had to often try 3 or 4 times with it. After several crashed and hangups I decided to get rid of Splash News. How does BeyondPod do in these areas?

BeyondPod is the first and only RSS feed software that I've tried. I am afraid I can't offer any comparison. As for the concerns on speed, I ain't sure you were referring to the downloading speed or how fast the software renders a page. For the former, it is chiefly dependent of your mobile network and for the latter, I find BeyondPod to be acceptable. I've also not experience any problem listening to podcast and surfing net at the same time.

It could be that I do not have that many 3rd party software installed in the phone, I hardly encounter crashes or hang-ups and let alone from this software. In any case, the software doesn't cost a dime, give it a try and see if it fits. Cheers.
