Default PC initiated installs must have sufficient buffer space on main memory...

Hey all,

Even if you choose to install an application to the storage card, it seems that the Q requires the proper amount of space on the main memory before it even begins the install process -- at which time you can install to the storage card... kinda silly if you ask me -- defeats the purpose of the memory card...

So, if you have 2 gig free on storage, and 3 megs free on main memory, you cannot install a 4 meg app to your memory card, because it has to have enough space on the main memory first...

Any thoughts?

Matt!

Isn't the solution simple??...Just transfer most of your apps and utilities to your storage card, thus freeing up space so that you won't run into this again...

and you can use Mobile Appmover to move apps and they will still work. (not tested by me)

Hey guys...

Thanks.... It just seems funny when installing from the PC -- you'd think you could go straight to the storage card. Oh well -- just picking brains - no biggie...

Thanks again,

Matt!

Rude --

I didn't bother moving apps, since I have it setup properly already -- but I still don't see a work around for going right to the card. Oh well, i'll just make sure to keep as much buffer space as possible

There are certain apps I like to keep on the main memory -- incase my SD card ever failed i wouldn't be totally screwed while away from the PC... ya know?

Thanks,

Matt!

Hey Killer,
That's what I do, install straigt to the storage card from the PC via the card reader. As well as installing straight to the card when installing on the Q itself.

Are you talking about installing to the card from the PC via actice sync?

MBK,

For example, say I have a game that is an .exe file that has to be installed from the PC first. I run the file, and active sync starts up, does it's thing, then says "see device for additional installation instructions".... Then, instead of it giving me the option right then to install to device, or SD card, the Q almost "preloads" the data to the main memory as a temp file and THEN asks where I want to install it...

You mentioned that you 'install' directly to the sd using the reader -- did you mean "drag and drop'? or actual INSTALL like i mentioned above?

Does that Make sense?

Thanks,

Matt!

I see what you mean now. You're right, I thought you were talking about transferring the file from the PC straight to the card and then installing it onto that card.
My bad, I usually use cab files in general, or exe's that can install from the storage cards.
