I got it to work thanks. haven't noticed much of a change yet. We'll see.

Default Better battery life... NOT!

I've installed the update and my battery life SUCKS big time. I'm luckly to get 2 hours on it without having to plug it back in. Is active sync killing it? Do I need to disable active sync to get an improvement. I like updating my calender with Outlook, if I use the Verizon sync website the calender appointments always screw up my Q. If I put a date in for a full day it always imports it into my calender for a full day everyday of the week. So I use Outlook and it puts my info in there correctly.
I don't understand why I'm not getting a better battery time like everyone else and I have an extended battery in my Q.

What gives?

Do you kill all your applications after you use them? If you don't, that will murder your battery life. The QTasks software is a good application for this if you like shortcuts.

Default Master Reset Required for ActiveSynch

Spoke to Motorola on Friday and to get ActiveSynch functioning properly you have to a Master Reset after the whole process. Everything seems great except my phone occasionally powers down for some unknow reason...

I've also heard that if you don't see battery life improve after the update, a master reset should help. It's not always necessary -- I didn't do one but my battery life seems better. (Hard to tell, since I keep it plugged in when at my desk, driving, asleep, etc.)

I had the shutdown problem in the first release, but it pretty much disappeared after MOL1. Today it happened twice after not happening at all over the first week+ with the new software. I'm waiting to see if it becomes a regular problem.

I'm new to the Q and have 2 questions about updates:

1) Where are the release notes, or do most users just go ahead with every patch that becomes available?

2) A few of you have mentioned doing a hard reset after the update, doesnt this force you to reinstall everything? (I would hate to format my pc hard drive every time I applied a Windows patch!!)

Thanks.

Default about Bluetooth

The bluetooth didn't work initial for me either... but (running a macbook pro and OS X) all I had to do was delete and re-pair my device and the OBEX started working again! I hope battery life improves!

1. Don't know about release notes. I use this forum as well as the one on Qusers. I haven't installed this software update. I will eventually, but I wanted to get a better idea of what improvements I should expect (as well as what bugs will inevitably surface in addition).

2. Installing a firmware update will erase all 3rd party software, as well as user specifications (including reg. hacks). Completing a hard reset (master reset) after a firmware update won't do anything that you haven't already done. When I do the firmware update, i will do a master reset pre-emptively. It's a pain in the a** to redo my registry hacks so I would rather just assume that it's a necessary step of the update process. That said, make sure you back up your third-party software. It may not be a bad idea to invest in a back up program like Sprite Backup (which I don't own, but have heard good things). Also, i recommend keeping a list of your reg hacks so you don't have to go through the forums every time you reset/update. Trust me.

Does Anyone know if you can just back up the User Profile XML file and re-install that directly, as a way of getting around the investment in Sprite Backup?

Also, people have been asking about whether you can go back to the old firmware AFTER updating to the new version.

The answer is NO. This is why I am waiting to determine the costs & benefits of updating. Once you update your firmware, you CANNOT revert back!

Thanks!
