More control over alerts

Is there anything out there that gives you more control over notifications? What I'd like to do is be able to specify a different alert if I get an e-mail from a certain e-mail address. Sorta like a custom ring tone, but for e-mail messages instead of phone calls.

I'd settle for just being able to specify a different alert for "high priority" messages vs. normal- or low-priority.

Any ideas?

I don't believe you can do this with the standard software, but rather a third party application. Although it doesn't say it here, Photo Contacts might supports these features.
