| MOL1, 2, 3...question? Hi all, I've got a Q on the way from an Ebay auction-after much reading (and searching) I have to ask...how do I determine which MOL is on my unit when I get it, and if I want (or need) to upgrade?
I'm gonna want to add a bunch of phone #'s, contacts, some software I've learned about here-Candlelight etc. but if I understand correctly, when you do a Mol change it wipes all that stuff out. So if it would make a better, more reliable unit I should start off woth the MOL stuff first. Or am I confused?
(What's MOL stand for anyhoo?)
Thanks for any guidance you may be able to provide!! |

| Yes, the MOL updates will basically nuke all your stuff. I have only done up to MOL2; I never really did look into MOL3. Just do the MOL update(s) and then install the programs. I'd also periodically back up your stuff, just in case. I've had one memory card already go on me after only a month or two of use. I don't use any specific backup programs, I just copy/paste every so often onto my laptop. |

| once again, i still didn't figure out how to see which MOL you have. anyway i think since you at that point to go to MOL3, it's what i did last week when i did a Master Reset. so far the only and positive effect it has is that the battery life seems better/longer.
i believe MOL stand for Motorola OnLine.

| Thanks for the replies!
I'm with Telus and I see on their site you can goto "support centre" then "download the latest Motorola Q software" and it takes you to a Motorola site where you can pick out "telus" then "Q", then download instructions. This must be the most current update I suppose.
So (in your opinions) should I install Activesync and do this update first thing? Do I need to activate it on my Telus account first? |

| you have to re-activate/program "over the air" after the MOL update (i am w/ Verizon, we call *228 to "program" the Q) installing anything on the Q before the MOL update is not worth your time.
trust you'll get the latest update Telus wants you to get, i believe Verizon customers get MOL3, and Sprint isn't quite there yet and if i am not mistaken they get MOL2 still.

i like his logic...my logic in college was only to drink on days that end in Y and as long as you dont drink alone before noon you werent an alcoholic...although if it was before noon and someone else was there it was just fine! |
