Default Lost Key Mapping problem - Or so I am told.

So I am on my 3rd Q and each time I have had to replace it cause some keys start entering weird data. On my second Q most times that I used the 'Alt' key it would give me a set of 4 characters rather than shifting. Also, some of the directions on the navigation buttons would do the same. Mind you this is most of the time, not every time. It was rare, but there were still times you could get the key to do what it was supposed to do. That was replaced without any questions and I was told this was a common issue.

So, now it is happening again. My 3rd Q is doing almost the exact same thing. This time with the shift button, the up arrow and at times the 'm' key will make text messages send. Again this is not an EVERY TIME the button is hit kind of thing, but more like 90% of the time. Obviously very frustrating and makes the Q not so functional other than for calls.

I take it into Verizon again and the tech guy tells me that it is a "loss of the keyboard mapping" and that it is very odd this has happened. Somehow my shift key has been remapped to enter 'ozfr' and up arrow enters 'kq<return>r'. The only way to fix this is to hard rest the phone and do something about the mapping.

First off, has this happened to anyone else? Was it ever fixed by anything other than a hardware swap? Also, can anyone else believe this is a "keyboard mapping" issue? If it happened 100% of the time, I might bite, but seeing as it is not all the time, and the loss of mapping is progressing across more keys as time goes on, I think there is something else going on. Any thoughts?

Thanks

I am experiencing the same exact problem. Exactly!

This morning I did a full hardware reset and it still does it.

Anyone have any ideas?

First, are you both using the same type of Q, and who are the providers.

Once answered, I will see what I can dig up.

What software are you guys installing on your Q's? I tend to believe that if a rare error happens to the same person theee times then maybe it is a bad piece of software being installed. Could also be a bad shippment of phones that they keep handing you one out of.

I have the silver Verizon Moto Q with MOL2. I have had this Q for about 6 months and this just started about a week ago.

And I have not installed any new software in about a month. This morning I did a full reset so now there is NOTHING installed and the problem is still there.

Thank you guys, any info you can dig up would be great!

Same thing is happening to me. The 'Up', 'm', and 'right menu' button are entering random characters. Any solutions? I did the Master Reset and nothing. It did go away for some reason, but came back out of nowhere. i didnt change any settings.

Not sure if it's related or not. But randomly my ?/0 key will only produce the 0. I can't enter a question mark no matter what I do.

What Q are you using? Q or a Q9...H? C? M?
(Dang, this is getting complicated isn't it?)
Who is your carrier?
Maybe there is an update for your phone (just guessing here since I don't know what phone or carrier you have)

Go here and see if you can update it. It does solve a lot of issues for some ppl.

*Warning* Plz back up your contacts (pim.vol) and the rest of your phone b/c this does wipes out everything on your phone.

Good Luck

I have a Q9c from Sprint. I only had two programs installed and guess what they were?

Moto Q Flashlight
Candlelight

I did a master reset this morning and haven't had the problem since. I think we've narrowed it down to one of those two programs haven't we? Everyone has at least one of them installed...
