Well for me, there is the fact that I have folders of icons for my sliding panels, images that are downloaded as part of my rss feeds, and various images from the phone's camera etc etc.
The things is..the option to choose when and what to scan is just basic common sense.
In any case, I did try the new version and the scan is much quicker, but the process is still annoying. It is a motivator to clean up the stray images on my phone and card.
Maybe I will keep the kinoma process running so I dont have to deal with the scans. Hopefully it's not a drain on the battery and RAM. I will test it over the course of the weekend.
Is there a way to have this start automatically when the phone powers on?

I have to say that even with Kinoma's current limitations, it definitely is the nicest media experience on my Q. I like that playlists can contain anything, since I listen to albums and not playlists, I'm using playlists as photo albums. This takes away from the annoyance that Pictures shows you everything on the device. They definitely could improve the process of creating playlists, but once you understand the process it is actually quick and easy to set up a playlist and then browse your collection to add what you want. If they simply added a customized playlist module called 'My Albums' to the Pictures folder they probably could do a tiny bit of programming but get a huge improvement to the user experience. The functionality is there, just not so intuitive currently. It would also be nice if you could view playlists in thumbnail view, so viewing picture albums would be like viewing the regular pictures directory.

I personally don't mind it scanning at startup, but I do agree they should give some options for customizing what you want to scan. I haven't noticed a battery drain with Kinoma in the background, but Kinoma will close if not used for a while, so having it start at boot doesn't seem like it would really be a consistent way to avoid the scans.

I also want some basic photo editing: crop, brightness and contrast would be great, nothing more really would be needed to make me happy.

Just click the Center button of your 5-way when your cursor's in the To field, and you'll get an address picker. Type a few characters to filter the list.

Yes, Kinoma Play (and FreePlay) no longer scan on launch, you can scan manually (of never) if you prefer, and more.
