Default Internet Explorer Homepage & Default

I'm new to Smartphones/PDAs, so excuse the ignorance. I just got the new Motorola Q9 global, which has Opera as the default browser (assigned to the browser key), but has Internet Explorer available.

1) How do I reassign the web key on the phone to launch Internet Explorer rather than Opera.

2) How do you change the home page on Internet Explorer (there is an option for it on Opera, but I don't see one on Internet Explorer).

Thanks for the help!

Well I think you can go into personal settings > buttons> and re-assign that button to Internet Explorer. I think, thats the way it is on my other phone.

I don't know of a way to change the homepage, but what I have done is create a contact with only the web page for that contact filled out (gmail in my case). I then assigned a speed dial for the contact (9 in my case). So, I press and hold 9, then go to the web page. That might help....

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be such a path ("personal settings > buttons>") on this phone.

Changing to IE to a speed dial would work, but I was hoping for a solution where I could reassign the dedicated web button.

Thanks for the help though. Does anyone else have a solution?

Also, now I can't even access my IE homepage (I didn't change any settings). Every time I open IE or go to the homepage, I get an Alert message that says "The page cannot be found." So again, is there any way to change the homepage?

Thanks again!

Opera has option on the Misc page of Tools/Settings menus to set Opera as the default browser. Try clearing that option. Maybe that will make PIE the default browser.

I've tried doing that, and pressing the "AT&T World" button still launches Opera. Does anyone have a reghack for it?

Because there ain't no such option You can only add to favs.

The answer to your 1) question is ---> Start menu/Personalize my Q/Homescreen Right softkey/Key name/Menu/Favourites/Whatever there is in your IE favourites list.

On my Q9m, the buttons are "hard-programmed" to launch a program by its name from the \Windows\Start Menu directory. For example, the button with the envelope launches the messaging.lnk program in the Start Menu directory. The button for speakerphone/voice recognition launches "Voice Recognition.lnk" after a long press (2 second press). By renaming a shortcut to that name, I have been able to change the behavior of the buttons (I first rename Messaging.lnk to Messaging2.lnk, then rename the program I want to launch, Xtremetxt.lnk to Messaging.lnk).

My guess is in the Start Menu, if you rename the Internet Explorer.lnk to Opera.lnk, the button will launch Internet Explorer (you may want to rename Opera.lnk to Opera2.lnk first).

Here's the reg key for the homepage in Internet Explorer:
\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AboutURLs\home

Question: What don't you like about Opera? I'm about to pay $24 for Opera, and don't understand why you would prefer Internet Explorer, other than Youtube access?

I use Opera mobile. I really like it. I have tried the new version of Opera mini. It is really good also. Both are much faster than PIE. Opera mini is faster on the first visit to a website. But once graphic objects are stored in cache, I think the times to load a page are very comparable. Plus, tabbed browsing speeds up surfing a lot because you don't have to wait for a page to load when you hit the back key. Just close the current tab.

I have set up a 16 MB cache on the SD Card and made some changes to the OPERA.INI and INPUT.INI files, and I am amazed how much you can do with Opera. My only gripe with Opera is you cannot remove Opera from the user agent. Some banking websites will not accept this. This is true of both versions.

I think you should get Opera. The only question is it worth 24 dollars for mobile over mini. I prefer the mobile version, but have been using mobile since May, so maybe I am more familiar with it.
