Default Hot Keys in TCPMP

When I set hot keys in TCPMP, those buttons basically become useless outside of TCPMP (when it's running). For instance, let's say I set M to Mute in TCPMP. I start a playlist, let's say a mix of Slayer and Chris Isaak. Then I decide to text message someone with the message "Your dog tastes like meatloaf." Well, it's fine, until I have to type "meatloaf" because I can't press the M key. It's like this for any button I set in TCPMP.

This is a serious problem because I like meatloaf. Is there a "do not hog the key when tabbed out" option or something I'm not seeing here?

M was just an example. For instance, here is my layout:

F - Fullscreen Toggle
M - Mute
B- Previous Track
N - Next Track
Z - Zoom In
X - Zoom Out
L - Launch Nuclear Warhead
P - Playlist

etc.

So I will eventually run out of keys I can get around.

OK, well in that case fair enough...lol, you wouldn't want to launch warhead when trying to mute.
