Default gpsVP

Been using my Freedom keychain GPS with my Q with great success with MS Live and Google but was missing something... a tracklog.

I found a cool piece of free software called gpsVP that filled that void VERY well and exceeded my expectations.

The nice thing about it is that you can load other map files (Garmin for example) or download Google, MS Live or an opensource map from the Internet as you go.

Shows speed, max speed, distance to destination, etc... lots of nice options (backlight control, cache, and more).

Only used it today so far but figured I'd post it up, could be handy for someone (hiking, biking, snowmobiling).

Here's a link if you're interested:

So you can load the program and the worldbasemap from garmin and not need a data connection for mapping?

Correctomundo, just wish I had it to verify though.

It can be a little intimidating at first, but once you realize what everything does and how it all works together it's actually pretty intuitive.

You need to enable the maps if you want to see streets, etc... such as rasterized maps from Google or Live (or the other option, some open source project map which is nice too).

so you need more than jsut the world base map or the Americas map that garmin offers? those maps do not have streets on them..is that correct?

America's base map seems to have major streets in Los Angeles. Took me a bit to extract it from the Palm installer.
