Gmail Sync Question-read/unread emails

So I get a fair share of Gmails every day--100+--and since I'm in front of a computer most of the time, I read and keep/delete/etc these emails on my computer. All of these emails, read/unread, are also sent to my Q, which fills that inbox quickly. Is there any way to set it up so that only unread emails are sent to the Q?

I'm thinking that if I set the send/receive to a longer time period than the 30 minutes I have now, this might help solve the problem, but if I recall correctly, all emails will still be sent to the Q, even those already read on the computer. thanks
