Default Fizz Weather Problem

I just got my verizonwireless bill and to my surprise I had $897 of additional minutes on my account. When I looked at the statement, it appears that this all came from fizz weather updating on my phone. I had it updating automatically 3 times a day, but I noticed the program would freeze while updating, and apparently still connected and charging minutes. I did not have a data package last month and this overage was in addition to my 1400 allowed minutes. Some calls were 800-1100 minutes each

Does anybody have a suggestion as to what I can do? Dispute the charges, blame it on a defective phone for not disconnecting, throw myself on the mercy of the court, etc. Has anyone else experienced this?

Your data connection should not be using minutes. Ask them to recalculate your bill using the data package they should have given you when you got the phone. Most likely that would have been the per kb plan if you didn't choose a plan. I hope that lowers it a lot!

I did not have a data package last month when this occured, but I could still use my internet explorer function to surf the web. I guess this counted against my minutes.

If you don't have a data package, this is what will happen. May be worth the $45(?). Of course, you can set Fizz Weather up to do manual updates only when you want it to. That way you can control how often it is using the data connection.

I have to ask the question. Why would you use an application that requires data be downloaded from the Internet without taking into account you need data access from your device? I guess it's more of a rhetorical question...

To answer your question, I have 1400 minutes/month and average use is about 600/month. I had no idea fizz weather would make 800-1100 minute calls to update.

Just FYI--it's not necessarily Fizz. Any program that opens a data conneciton will cause this. On the Q, once open, the connection stays open (dormant). That's not a problem with an unlimited data plan, but causes a problem with air time data connections.

Well, this is the reason i got rid of Fizz. It was a nice little program but it froze up constantly on me and I had to soft reset the phone to restart the fizz connection. Luckily I had unlimited data. I would honestly go into the Verizon store and state your case . . . . help me out, the Q froze when updating . . . why do I have internet access without a plan . . . why did I not get a plan . . . at this price it is more cost effective for me to pay to leave . . . pick one.

Good idea, but what do you mean by more cost effective for me to pay to leave? Thanks
