Default Directory Assistant(411)

I am looking for a free 411(directory assistant) dowload for my Q. I had one for my Treo 650 that worked great.

Default Free directory assist phone number

Although you have to pay for the minutes used on the call, the following directory assist phone number does not charge you for the actual service. You just have to listen to a commercial before they tell you the phone number. It usually takes about 1-1/2 minutes for the total call. The number is 1-800-373-3411.

Default 411 App

I have to agree for the need of an application as you have described! I came from a blackberry over to the Q and I really miss this great (free!!) application called Berry 411. I emailed the developer to find out if he has any plans to expand over to WM5 phones. If I hear something positive, I'll come back and post it!

I have to agree with the Windows Live Search suggestion. This really is a slick program.

Sorry, no free 411 with the Q, but who cares! Instead text 46645. Example, I need the address and phone number of the hotel where I'm staying. Text number 46656 (enter number in phone number field), insert wanted information in text field, e.g. Marriott Hotel, Los Angeles. The service will usually text you back with two phone and address listings, assuming theirs more than one listing (narrow your request down to get better results, e.g. Marriott Hotel Reservations). It's works for all types of listings and the best part is it's free!

I haven't gotten my Q yet, doing a bit of research, I am coming from a Blackberry and love the Berry411. I found this http://www.4winmobile.com/free-411-f...ca8ae0e7bfb752 I think it will do the same thing! I should have my Q by Monday, let me know if this works!

I used the same thing Scott. I got an email a few months ago telling me about this FREE 411 service. I have it programmed in my Q as 411 so my voice recog. can dial it for me. I highly recommend using 1-800-373-3411 for 411 because it's awesome!!!!

Here are several alternatives:

Smart411 (which I use to use - basically Berry411 for WindowsMobile)

“Smart411 is a front end app that collects Search Criteria and Submits to Phil Bogle's (http://thebogle.com) Berry411 search engine. It is a 411 application that can be very useful if you have internet connection and if you want to search for something while you are traveling/or if you need some information. Your previous searches and addresses will be saved to save some time when you try a search the next time.
You can submit searches to Yellow Pages, White Pages, Google, Movies, Shopping, Encyclopedia, Weather etc.” The file can be found here:
http://www.vishwa.net/smart/Smart411.zip

There is a similar product called Directory Assistance:
http://www.trianglepowers.com/ppc6700/

A couple of alternatives:
Google SMS – text “46645” or “GOOGL” – type in the name for that which you are looking + the location. i.e. pizza – Birmingham, AL (or the zip code). I have Google SMS saved as a contact (and now use it in place of Smart411)

TellMe 411 – text “83556” or “tellme”; basically the same as Google SMS (at least as far as I can tell). They have a web site here:
http://beta.tellme.com/

Hope this helps.

John
