Rating or review Companionlink ACT users

I've used ACT! for 15 years and now use Companionlink to keep me current on appointments and contacts. I will be posting my experiences with ACT! and Companionlink for any interested Q users out there!

Lightbulb Disappearing dates

For those of us who like to keep a "work diary" or a log of all your appointmnets, Companionlink has some limitations.

I noticed after syncronizing my Q, previous days completed activities would disappear; however they remained on my ACT! calendar. The first two techie's at Companionlink thought it was a bug.

Here's the scoop. To save memory all previously completed activities are deleted from your Q on sync.

If you need a record of where you've been and what you've done, use your ACT! calendar.

Need Help The trick to showing locations on Q

Do you ever input an appointment to ACT! and later find yourself looking at the activity on your Q with no clue as to where to drive?

Rather than switching to contacts view (a slow process) and looking up the address, here's a quick fix.

When inputing an ACT! appointment cut/paste or type out the street address and city in the "Location" field. This will show the address on your Q.

Works great for me on the road, especially since I'm typing in addresses to my Garmin daily.

This looks interesting.
My companyuses Outllok but one of my projects uses ACT. Therefore, Ihave contacts in 2 different places and can at least do a decent Calendar sync.
I am getting ready to try out Companionlink but need to know if my ACT database willchange in any way? I can't have thathappen.

Thanks
Doug

Default Companionlink & Outlook

Yes. Companionlink can change your ACT! schedule. I recommend backing up both your ACT! database and PDA using Sprite backup before any sync. This is due to Companionlinks tendancy to duplicate appointments on both the PC & PDA. You can "purge & reload" in Companionlink but this too is imperfect.

New Q user and long time ACT user. I am wondering why activesync goes into this continous sync with my Q? Does the program really need to go through all my contacts each and every time I plug it in? I have over 250 and it takes a while for it to look for changes and sync every contact. The program then at times seems to be syncing over and over again.

Also, I am confused at the diff between wireless and activesync, companionlink.

Just trying to get the hang of all this. Help me out if you can. thanks.

DowJones,

The best recommendation I can make is to watch your Q and disconnect it once you've completed the first sync. It has a bad habit of restarting if left connected.

To be blunt, Companionlink has a long way to go and tends to create duplicates. That being said, I would recommend exporting your ACT! contacts over to Outlook and syncing Outlook contacts, CIX Activities & CIX To Dos. To change your sync method you will need to disconnect your Q, delete the mobile device within ActiveSync and re-connect creating new sync settings for your Q.

I'm not familiar with Companionlink's wireless sync.

Hope this helps.

Here's my new problem.

Activesync/Companionlink is not pulling my contacts work phone number in. It is pulling in all other phone and mobile numbers just not the work phone.

I checked the field mapping in companionlink and it is set to "phone" for the work phone field on the Q. THis is the correct field in act for work phone. Any ideas here?
