Default backup software for contacts?

hi, i am now awaiting a replacement phone because i've had the terminal freeze on the verizon screen that many other users of this forum have described. because i have outlook express and not outlook on my computer, i had not been able to sync contacts and calendar, so i've now lost all this as well as my photos, etc--and judging from the problems reported here i'd be smart to expect other freezes in my future. i wanted the Q as a pda, but losing this data periodically won't give me that functionality. is there software which will allow me to back up this info or which can be used instead of the installed Q calendar and contacts and can be backed up? is there a way to backup using active sync but without outlook? i checked out sprite mentioned elsewhere here but i can't tell if it backs up calendar and contacts, it seems not from the way i read the description. any advice?

just use wirelesssync. it is everything you will need for free. all you get charged is data.

yep Sprite will backup your calendar and contacts. It will pretty much backup everything and restore it to the same state it was in at the time of backup even after a ROM upgrade (using upgrade mode)!

If you use wireless sync, but have no Outlook program, what are you syncing with?

The instructions say that this way will NOT save your contacts...

Not sure where you read this. I've been using Wireless Sync since day one with my Q and it syncs and backs up my contacts just fine. I have replaced my Q twice and each time I just initiated Wireless Sync and it automatically restored my Contacts from the Wireless Sync server. Never had to re-enter a single one of the hundreds of contacts I have.

Top of page 13, under "Retrieve My Email for me"...which would pertain
to VZW servers...

I've been using this as well. It saves your contacts, but it does not save the contact picture nor any custom ringtones you have set for them. Outlook will save (and restore) the picture, but not the ringtone.
