Default Answering Machine Software?

I've been browsing around and it looks like there -are- answering machine programs for other OS's/phones, but I haven't seen any for WM5.

I'm talking about a program that operates completely on the smartphone (besides the incoming call) and behaves like an answering machine.

Is there such thing?

Thanks

I don't know if this is what you want but I use Youmail www.youmail.com. You can assign individual greeting for for every contact and just a standard for everyone else. You do not have to delete any vm. It's a pretty cool product. Hope that helps.

Super,

I don't know of any software like this -- but I will keep my eyes peeled since they are real nice apps. I speak from experience...

On my Sanyo PM 8200 there was a feature that acted as an answering machine... Here's how it worked:

While a call was coming in, there was an option called "call screening" that was available. When you clicked that option, it would answer the call, but it would be routed to a digital recorder within the phone -- a preset message that you record in the phone would play, then the person would leave a message while it recorded... You could even listen to it as they did it... Totally cool...

Based on the nature of the functionality, I don't see why a 3rd party app shouldn't be able to handle this...

I found AUTOPILOT (for S60 smartphones - so, it won't work with "us".). But that goes to show you that it's out there.

Or not -- I just found THIS article... possible hardware limitation - but I find that hard to swallow....

I'll let you know,

Thanks,

Matt!

If you are looking to be able to screen messages try to get an invite to Grandcentral. Really cool website that has alot of cool functions. Two drawbacks. One you have to give everyone a new number and two it is in beta testing right now. I am not heavily using it because I am afraid of pricing down the road.

If available for our OS, it probably won't work on the Q. There is no way to channel incoming voice to the recording circuitry on the Q.
A search for recording telephone calls will reveal that it is a hardware impossibility.

What do you mean by " hate picking up vm and now I can just hear them on my phone."? Also, I assume that there is a notification of your phone somehow when you get voicemail then?

Thanks,

Matt!

P.S. For some reason, I just don't fully trust a 3rd party company handling my VM. I mean, who knows if the site goes down, if VMs are getting missed, or deleted....

From what I understand, you get a text message when you receive a new v/m. I assume you would have some password (like your original v/m) or you can log in and just hear, delete or save the ones you want to on a computer. Doesnt sound too bad, exept the threat of who knows who can be listening to your personal v/m. Especially love that ditch mail.

I see.... There are services out there too that will transcribe your VM to text and then send it too you... Now that's cool...

Check out SPINVOX.com. And more specifically for voicemail HERE

For more services, scroll down a titch HERE

THIS one is free during beta...

Glad to help,

Matt!

oops! I meant, that I can "hear" the vm's on my computer. everytime someone leaves me a vm i get an email and i can listen to the vm directly from the email. its great. and yes, the ditchmail thing is very cool.
