As you may have already seen here (http://www.gadgetapps.net/forum/view...8b7a0c01390eab), Sniper is written in C# and the Widcomm API is in C++.

I personally think this is a weak reason as C# has the ability to run unmanaged C++ code. He also speaks of not having a device to test on.

I think the real reason is that the current Q is the only device of significant popularity that uses the Widcomm BT stack, so its not worth the effort and the financial return is minimal.

I also looked into MobiLuck, but that too only runs on the MS Stack. We can't access BT via Java either as we don't support the appropriate JSR (81 I think?).

I've come to conclusion that we're just going to have to accept being left out in the dark, or write one from scratch ourselves.

Udpate--for Java based bluejack apps to work, the JVM needs to support JSR-82.

By default, IBM's J9 does not, but I found a project from a place called Avetana that has made a lib jar that allows the IBM J9 to interface with the BT stack on the device.

I haven't managed to get it to work fully yet, but on apps that used to say 'No BT API found, etc', I no longer get.

I'm still working with it, there isn't a lot of info on it and the doc stinks.

If anyone is interested, do a google on JSR-82 and avetana.

I think we may have found a whole new area of Q dev.

Thanks for looking into it. Yeah I kept looking around but it looks like Widcomm is just the red headed step child and I don't know enough code to help. If you guys can find anymore Bluejack programs let me know cause I'm still hunting around...thanks.

Don't hold your breath. The WidComm API is available free NOW but thats only a recent change, they used charge big bucks for it, so nobody developed for it.

MS gave theirs away free so thats where all the development went.

People may now beging to dev with the WidComm API but given the minimal number of devices, its not likely.

wasn't sure the usefulness of the such program. I mean, if the person is just beside you, why chat over bluetooth? want to talk to the stranger? you got to make sure he has the same sniper software, and the chance is probably much much lower than if you ask him/her outright if he/she wants to be yoiur friend. :P

oh, the sniper program doesnt need the other person to have the same program. it exploits a problem in bluetooth that allows you to send msgs to them. not really an exploit but simply sending them contacts with info that they want to know. the sniper program makes it easier. i know the sniper program also goes into actually gaining some more info about the user but im not sure exactly what it does or how legal what it does is.....but yah.....the other person doesnt need to have it.

thanks xpherion, i donloaded the code and stuff and will try to make some progress over spring break....i dont know if i mentioned this but im still in high school (senior) and my class load is heavy as hell sooo i dont have much time...so i cant promise a finished product at any time.....but i will work on it. plus im taking online courses which doesnt help any wiht time managment. but yah.....spring break should give me some time.....i dont post alot but expect a reply from me around march 15....i thnk i should have a reallllyyyyy rough one done by then.....
i would love help on this project if anyone is willing i dont know how to really spread work on a project like this cus ive never done this online group project style stuff but who can say to no to free help...

xpherion, im glad to see im not the only 1 wanting to further this project.....do you have any lanaguage prefrence for the project....i was thinking csharp since the premade version is already writtin in c#. it would be easier to build on that way.....

although it would be possible to change if we had too...
