Default Going to start Dev work

Well,

I have always played around with programming a little, and I think I am going to start developing for my MotoQ, for a few reasons...

Some of the software I feel is over-priced, I don't have a problem with charging money for software you made, but some of this stuff is like 45 bucks for some code that is still semi-buggy... gimmie a break...

I want to learn how to be a better coder, I have always had an interest in programming, just never really had any motivation, now that I have my Q I have just that.

There are some programs that I think would be really useful, but I can't find anything to do what I want, so I will make it myself.

That being said, I think that my first program will be something for Bluejacking on the Q. I love bluejacking, it is really great clean fun (does not involve hacking, so you nay sayers, keep them shut, lol). but all of the programs for it will not run on the Q (because it does not use the MS bluetooth stack).

So, everyone that is into bluejacking, please give me a list of features that you would like in a bluejacking program.

NOTE: Since I am not a hardcore programmer, this project make take some time, I am going to be learning the language and the SDK with this project. As such I make no guarantees that the program will work, not bug out, or even get finished, lol.

I've liked the idea of Bluejacking but have never tried it before but fair play to you for giving it a go. As I've never used that type of software before I'm not in a position to suggest features but good luck in your development I will watch this thread and ook forward to your updates.

you can do it without the software, it is really easy. Just make a contact in your address book, make the name the message you want to send someone, such as ".Hello you have been bluejacked" (the . is just to make sure that it will stay at the top of their contact list, makes it easier for them to delete them afterwards, bluejackers play nice).

Then highlight that contact and hit the menu softkey and go to "send via bluetooth" look at the list of phones that show up (obviously there has to be a phone in range with BT turned on) choose one and send it. Then look around all covert like and see who gets it. Then you can send them another one about the shirt they are wearing.

You can even snap a pic of them and send it to them via bluetooth the same way, just snap a pic, then MOVE TO SOMEWHERE ELSE IN THE ROOM, then send it, that way they can't look at the pic to find out where you took it from, you won't be there anymore.

lots of fun to be had, the software just makes it easier.

EDIT: check out www.bluejackQ.com for more info. (site has nothing to do with Motorola Q's the name is more like "bluejack-you")

In most cases doesn't the recieving party have to accept the ecard?

in most cases yes, there are a few different outcomes of an attempted bluejack:

1. the receiving phone declines the contact and never notifies the user, you get an error message (failure)
2. the receiving phone will only accept them from paired devices and prompts the receiving party for a passcode, which you then have to know as well, just like pairing a
bluetooth device. (failure)
3. the receiving party's phone prompts the user to accept a contact without showing them the details of the contact (could be failure depending on if they accept or not, we'll call this one a maybe).
4. the receiving party's phone prompts them to accept and shows them the name of the contact in question (success whether they accept or not, they still saw the message)
5. the receiving party's phone accepts the contact, adds it to the phone book and notifies the recipient of the contact showing it's info (success here as well)

If I can get this software working, then one of my first upgrades to it will be to add a database of phones, based on the MAC address of the phone, and default bluetooth usernames, and let you know if it thinks it will work or not, it could highlight the people in range in white if it does not know, red if it thinks it will be a failure (1 or 2 above), yellow for a maybe (3 above), and in green if it thinks it will be a success (4 or 5 above). this part would require community involvement since I will need people to test the bluejack on their friends and families phones, tell me the default bluetooth name of the phone, as well as get me the mac address of that phone (or at least all but the last few pairs of it).

Again, I haven't started this software yet, and it may never get completed, I need to bone up on my programming a little more, I haven't done it in quite some time... but I do have plans at least.
