Default AIM app that uses SMS?

Forgive me for reposting and/or posting to the wrong section, but I figured I should since I asked the question on a GTalk thread.

"I'm no coder by any means, but it would be sweet if someone created an app that utilizes SMS for aim or other IM services. See link below for ways to log onto AIM via sms...im assuming since Extreme Text has figured out how to access the text messaging db on the Q, one might be able to implement this AIM over SMS into a nice little GUI"

I guess I'm wondering if this is possible? Thanks.

Ahh. I'm pretty sure it's possible.

HOWEVER. AIM has a really cool feature. You can Mobile IM.
Just make a screenname, register it as a mobile.

When people IM that screenname, it gets redirected to your phone as a text message.

And, to send out from your phone - you text to 246246 (AIM) and in the message '3 screenname message'.

Hopefully that was easy to understand and something that you're looking for. ;x

Thanks for replying, but I did know that already. :/

I guess I would love to see an app that does that for you with a nice GUI. Sorta like a combination of the way pusheffect listens for SMSes with '@' in the from field (only this app would listen for '246246') and the way Extreme Text is able to access the SMS functions in your phone...for example you could have a setting that sets the frequency at which the app polls the AIM server for your buddy list - a feature that would be too annoying to do manually via SMS alone.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for or not, but before I got my 9H (with an IM program pre-installed) I used a program called Agile Mobile.

This program could run in the background, plus used SMS for every incoming/outgoing IM (Beware!! This can add up quickly!!). It also pulled your screen name from AOL, ICQ, Yahoo and Google with minimal set-up.

Are you sure the new version of Agile uses SMS? I used to use it on my old ppc and it drained battery very quickly which lead me to believe it was strictly data.

This would be a very cool app! I have no idea, but I love the idea of not draining the battery + AIM mobile in a GUI. Too bad I'm no programmer either
