Default .xml editing and the Q9h from AT&T

UPDATED: 05/17/08 I found the answer to many of my "issues". I have Vista on my computer and had another Smartphone previously, so I already had Windows Mobile Device Center. It worked with my Q, so never gave it another thought. While troubleshooting another issue I checked and found a newer version. So, I updated WMDC and the problems below have gone away. Have you updated your software lately???

Original post reads: Has anyone who has a Q9h successfully edited and used a homescreen .xml file?

I can copy the file from my Q to my desktop, open in Notepad, edit the file and save it. When I try to move it back to the Q, however, I get a message that says I can copy the file but it will be unusable; storage purposes, only.

I know I had to use EnableRAPI in order to move my Start Menu icons around, but it doesn't work for the homescreen .xmls. I'm just stumped as to how this model can be so different from the other Qs!

(We should all have our Q model in our sigs, so we'll know if a program or hack works on a compadre's unit, it'll likely work on ours! )

Did you try the storage card trick with a card reader I mentioned when you were trying to figure this out before the big master reset?
Could the phone be locked? Maybe try Aeconfig on rb's web site?
My phone is "wacky" too but I still can do stuff!!

Hi Geekster,
Actually, no I forgot about the storage card thingy after the master reset...I'll have to look that up again and try it maybe.

I don't know if the phone is locked or not, but I don't think AEConfig will do anything for me. I'm not editing the registry, and it sounds like EnableRAPI (which I've tried and worked great for the start menu icon problem) does what AEConfig does, just not on the phone itself.

I can change homescreens if they are installed with a CAB file, just not by moving files into the folder.
The fact that no one with a Q9h has responded speaks volumes, I think. Ever since I got it I expressed my suspicions that it was a different beast than the other Qs. It seems that as more and more people get this model posts are popping up with issues like this, where tricks and programs that lots of people do on other Qs won't work with the 9h. Ooooo-weeeeee-ooooh... <---best Twilight Zone music.

I'll look up the card reader post again. Thanks!

Oooh, I didn't try a hoe screen, I'll bet that would work! How much would it cost me, do ya think?

See my reply to Geekster on AEConfig. It would make me feel better if other Q9h users had successfully used these things...I'm sorta partial to NOT having to do master resets a lot. I hate always being the guinea pig! LOL

Thanks!
