Default Problem with xml file

I just started working with the xml files on my Q....

This is what I am doing:

I connect my device, copy the xml file from it and paste it to my desktop. I then made a small change (changed one word in the file), saved the file and try to put it back on the phone..no go. I get the following error:

Error copying file:

cannot copy sprint.home: Access is denied.

make sure your mobile device has sufficient memory, that the file is not set as read only, and that you have permission to copy this file type.

The file is not marked as read only when it is on my desktop (obviously; otherwise I wouldn't be able to modify it) and I have tried copying the file content and pasting it to a new file. I have also gone to application settings on the phone and made sure the read only box is not checked.

Any other ideas?

the file on the Q is read only mots likely... plus it's better to use a more plain text editor such as Notepad or Wordpad.

I used notepad to change the file after putting it on my desktop.

How do I take read only status off the files on the Q?

.....wait...I may have just found it.....ok, maybe not. I went into properties in application data and the \application data\home folder is not checked read only but the files inside are. Easy enough, take the read only check mark out...but, the sprint.home.xml file I am trying to change is not listed there but is listed when I have the phone connected to my pc and go through windows explorer.

Ok, I figured it out. The file was marked as a system file on the phone which are hidden by default. Uncheck both of those, took off the read only and now I can edit and add files.

How did you Uncheck and take off the read only? I see the option, but it is greyed out so I cant do anything.

Thats a good question. The last time I did it I had TC on my phone, thats probably why it worked. I'll give that a try and reprot back.

I changed it back to how I had it with my last phone but the Email (0) is still there that is linked to Outlook. I have the Read Only and System areas checked. Do I need to have it archived too or something? I cant figure out why its here when its the exact same as last time.

Can I just erase this whole section from Sprint.home.xml?

Email
<unreadMsgs name="Yahoo" />

</text>

- <text lang="0x0C0A">
Email
<unreadMsgs name="Yahoo" />

</text>

</label>

- <label>
- <text lang="0x0409">
Text Messages
<unreadMsgs name="SMS" />

</text>

- <text lang="0x0C0A">

If I erase that, will the email link go away on my home page? Is it safe to try that, or is there something else I can do to get rid of that stupid email link to Outlook? I dont know why its not like I had it before, the settings are identical.
