Default multiple columns in home screen

OK, I just read the home screen tutorials and it seems pretty easy. But I have been looking at home screens and so far every one had had the plugins stacked vertically, and you use the up/down keys to navigate.

I would like to know if there is a way in xml to create a home screen with two columns of plugins and use the up/down and right/left keys to navigate between plugins.

Facade allows some use of columns. It's still a control placed vertically, but within that control columns for calendar and tasks. You probably already knew this....
