So I want to learn about this whole homescreen designing thing and make my own homescreens. I'm gonna look thru the tutorials and stuff but where do you start from there?

Do you guys usually design your wallpaper/background image first and then from there fit in all the plug-ins to fit around your picture? Also, what is everyone mostly using, PhotoShop?

I have ALOT to learn so I'm just trying to give myself a better idea of where to start from as I'm going thru the tutorials.

yea read the tutorials... i am not a home screen designer (i made a few but not like some here) anyway... i would start with a image you like and go from there, you'll find out that not all images are suitable as a background.

I start with an image and build plugins around it. Mainly because I tend to work with a picture as opposed to a background. In rare cases (Quiet Blue series, Edges) I have an idea and a vague layout plan. In which case, I build the iamge behind the plugins.

But for the most part, I layout the image, then the plugins. With a rough idea of what plugins I'm using.

Your best bet to start is to find a simple homescreen and analyze the XML file. Then work from there.

Thanks for the advice guys! I'll get some free time soon after this week's finals =) I can't wait to jump right in!
